Midnight Season 2 Mythic+ encounter guide

The Golden Serpent

The Golden Serpent is an add-control check. Spit Gold targets drop Molten Gold pools, Lucre's Call animates every pool into an Animated Gold add that crawls toward the boss, and each add that reaches him grants a Luster stack that shields him for 10 percent of his health and buffs his damage by 25 percent, which on a high key snowballs into unhealable group damage and a dead key.

The key group plan

Priorities before the pull

  • During Lucre's Call, everyone swaps to Animated Gold adds and uses every slow, root, and stun available. No add may ever reach the boss.
  • Stack all Spit Gold pools in one spot away from the boss so the add wave spawns far from him and dies in cleave range.
  • Hold lust or a major cooldown so you can delete an add wave if pools were dropped badly.
Ability reference

The casts that matter in keys

Spit Gold

Spit Gold

Two random players take a Fire damage-over-time effect that leaves a pool of Molten Gold at their location when it expires.

Targeted players walk to one agreed drop spot far from the boss so every pool lands stacked together and the adds spawn in one place.

Molten Gold

Molten Gold

The dropped pools deal heavy Fire damage every second to anyone standing in them, and they are the raw material for the boss's adds.

Stay out of the pools at all times, and remember where they are because Lucre's Call will turn every one of them into an add.

Lucre's Call

Lucre's Call

Every Molten Gold pool in the room becomes an Animated Gold add that slowly walks toward The Golden Serpent, and any add that reaches him is absorbed as a stack of Luster.

Swap all damage to the adds immediately, and slow, stun, and root them so none of them ever touch the boss. Killed adds turn back into pools.

Luster

Luster

Each absorbed Animated Gold shields the boss for 10 percent of his health and increases his damage done by 25 percent, and the effect stacks.

Treat every stack as a failed mechanic. On a high key even one stack makes Serpentine Gust and Tail Thrash dangerous, so prevent stacks rather than healing through them.

Serpentine Gust

Serpentine Gust

A five second channel that deals Nature damage to the whole party every second and pushes everyone back.

Pre-position so the knockback does not push you into Molten Gold, press personal defensives, and let the healer rotate a healing cooldown through the channel.

Tail Thrash

Tail Thrash

A heavy Physical tankbuster melee strike on the current tank target.

The tank uses active mitigation for every Tail Thrash, and treats it as lethal whenever the boss holds any Luster stacks.

Role calls

What each role owns

Tanks

Use active mitigation on Tail Thrash and drag the boss away from any live Animated Gold so the adds have the longest possible walk.

Healers

Plan a healing cooldown for each Serpentine Gust channel, and pre-hot Spit Gold targets while they walk their pools out.

DPS

Save burst and crowd control for Lucre's Call, kill every Animated Gold before it reaches the boss, then avoid the pools they leave behind.

Everyone

Know your Serpentine Gust knockback path before the channel starts, because getting pushed into Molten Gold during group damage is how players die here.

Tyrannical: Weeks Serpentine Gust ticks and Tail Thrash hit dramatically harder, so a single Luster stack can push both past survivable levels. Play the add phase perfectly and rotate a defensive plan for every Gust channel.

Pull-time callouts

Say these before the pull

  • Spit Gold targets: drop your pool at the marked stack spot, never on the boss.
  • Lucre's Call: kill and CC the adds, zero adds reach the boss.
  • Serpentine Gust: defensives up and watch the knockback.
  • Every Luster stack shields the boss and buffs his damage, so do not let it happen.
