Midnight Season 2

Midnight Enchanting leveling, 1 to 100

Dust is the cheap part. Knowledge is the part you cannot buy back, and the route below is ordered so that 11 recipes hand you their first-craft point while they are still worth skill.

The short answer

Level in this order, not in the cheapest order.

Every recipe gives one Midnight Enchanting Knowledge point the first time you craft it, and that is the only Knowledge source with no weekly cap. Reaching 100 by spamming one cheap enchant works, and it leaves 11 points sitting behind recipes that no longer give skill, so you pay for them twice.

The whole run to 62 costs about 337 Eversinging Dust net of what the levelling rods give back. That is a vendor trip and an afternoon, not a gold sink.

Three stops in Silvermoon

Everything the route needs is inside one city. Buy the rods on the way past the trainer, and leave the third stop until skill 55 so you make one trip instead of twenty.

  • Dolothos

    Enchanting trainer

    Silvermoon City

Teaches Midnight Enchanting. Everything in the 1-62 route below is learned here.

  • Lyna

    Enchanting supplies

    Silvermoon City, beside Dolothos

Refulgent Copper Rods and Enchanting Vellum. You will buy thirty rods before you start.

  • Jennara Sunglow

    Gleeful Glamours

Silvermoon City, second floor of the tower behind the trainer

A separate teacher for the 24 glamours. Worth one trip at 55, not twenty trips on the way up.

Buy this once, for 1 to 62

Summed from the route below rather than quoted, so it cannot drift from the steps it is meant to pay for. The list stops at 62 because past that the cost depends on which recipes you own, and any single number would be invented.

MaterialQuantity
Eversinging Dust412
Refulgent Copper Rod30
Radiant Shard27
Mote of Light6
Sunglass Vial1

Disenchanting the thirty levelling rods returns roughly 75 Eversinging Dust, so the dust you actually spend is nearer 337. Some steps run on yellow recipes, which fail to give a point often enough that a small surplus is cheaper than a second trip.

The route

1 to 62, in order

Rows marked First craft are in the route for the Knowledge point, so craft those before you repeat anything. Quantities are already multiplied out.

125

Rods you disenchant again

observed. Read from live data at a stated time. It describes what players did, not what the game guarantees.

The cheapest twenty-five points in the profession, because the rod you craft is also the item you disenchant for the next point. Roughly half the dust comes straight back.

  • 30x

    Runed Refulgent Copper Rod

    First craft

30x Refulgent Copper Rod, 150x Eversinging Dust

Buy the plain rods from Lyna, next to the trainer. Disenchant all thirty as you go: disenchanting gives skill up to 25 on its own.

2527

The first two Knowledge points

observed. Read from live data at a stated time. It describes what players did, not what the game guarantees.

Specialisations unlock at 25. Do not pick one yet. Keep levelling to about 60 and decide when three trees are open instead of one.

  • 1x

Enchant Helm - Rune of Avoidance

    First craft

15x Eversinging Dust, 3x Radiant Shard

  • 1x

    Thalassian Phoenix Oil

    First craft

5x Mote of Light, 1x Sunglass Vial, 5x Eversinging Dust

Sunglass Vial comes from Gelanthis, the Jewelcrafting supplier. If the rods left you short of 25, craft this one early.

2738

Two firsts, then repeat the cheap one

observed. Read from live data at a stated time. It describes what players did, not what the game guarantees.

Craft one of each for the Knowledge, then spam whichever is cheaper on your realm. The ring is dust only, so it usually wins.

  • 14x

    Enchant Ring - Nature's Wrath

    First craft

    70x Eversinging Dust

One for the first-craft point, then about thirteen more to carry the range.

  • 1x

    Illusory Adornment - Blooming Light

    First craft

1x Mote of Light, 2x Eversinging Dust

Take the first-craft point. Repeat this one instead of the ring only if motes are cheaper than dust on your realm.

3840

Two more firsts

observed. Read from live data at a stated time. It describes what players did, not what the game guarantees.

Both are first-craft points that happen to carry two skill levels. Order does not matter here.

  • 1x

Enchant Shoulders - Flight of the Eagle

    First craft

15x Eversinging Dust, 3x Radiant Shard

  • 1x

Enchant Helm - Hex of Leeching

    First craft

15x Eversinging Dust, 3x Radiant Shard

4052

Three points a craft

observed. Read from live data at a stated time. It describes what players did, not what the game guarantees.

The only recipe in the route that pays three skill per craft. Twelve levels for four crafts is the best rate you will see before 100.

  • 4x

    Thalassian Spellweaver's Wand

    First craft

60x Eversinging Dust, 12x Radiant Shard

5255

Three firsts, one point each

observed. Read from live data at a stated time. It describes what players did, not what the game guarantees.

Three separate recipes rather than three of one, because the point you are buying here is the Knowledge.

  • 1x

    Enchant Ring - Amani Mastery

    First craft

    5x Eversinging Dust

  • 1x

Enchant Helm - Blessing of Speed

    First craft

15x Eversinging Dust, 3x Radiant Shard

  • 1x

    Enchant Shoulders - Thalassian Recovery

    First craft

15x Eversinging Dust, 3x Radiant Shard

5562

The cheapest filler in the profession

observed. Read from live data at a stated time. It describes what players did, not what the game guarantees.

Yellow from here, so expect to craft more than nine. This recipe keeps giving skill to 70, so you can run it to 70 if you would rather finish fast than sell what you make.

  • 9x

    Enchant Ring - Amani Mastery

    45x Eversinging Dust

Yellow recipes fail to give a point sometimes. Budget a few extra crafts rather than a second shopping trip.

The detour worth taking: 24 Knowledge in one sitting

Gleeful Glamours are taught by Jennara Sunglow rather than the Enchanting trainer, which is why most routes skip them. Do them once at skill 55, when you are already in the city: they are 24 first crafts for less dust than the 40 to 52 step costs.

MaterialQuantity for all 24
Eversinging Dust48
Mote of Wild Magic10
Mote of Primal Energy8
Mote of Light4
Mote of Pure Void2

Glamours are transmog effects, not stat enchants, so nothing here changes your character sheet. The reason to craft them is the Knowledge.

62 to 100, by what you own

Above 62 there is no single route, because the recipes come from four different places. Craft one of each you have, list them, and repeat whichever sells. The column that decides your last ten points is the right-hand one: only weapon enchants are still orange at 90, and only one of those is on the trainer.

Four things that change the bill

  • Disenchant your quest greens before you buy anything

observed. Read from live data at a stated time. It describes what players did, not what the game guarantees.

Disenchanting gives Enchanting skill of its own up to 25, and it turns leftover gear into the dust the first step needs. Doing it first can cover most of the rod step for nothing.

  • A macro saves the profession window

practice. Convention among strong players. Widely followed, but it is not a rule and it can be wrong.

Put /cast Disenchant followed by /use Refulgent Copper Rod on a bar, hover the item in your bags, press the key. Shift-clicking an item while editing a macro pastes its exact name.

  • Blood Elves level Enchanting cheaper than anyone else

observed. Read from live data at a stated time. It describes what players did, not what the game guarantees.

The Blood Elf racial is +5 Enchanting skill and the Kul Tiran racial is +2. Extra skill keeps recipes orange for longer, which means fewer crafts per point at the bottom of every range.

  • Put every enchant on a vellum

practice. Convention among strong players. Widely followed, but it is not a rule and it can be wrong.

Set Enchanting Vellum as the Optional Target in the profession window and the enchant becomes a sellable item instead of a buff on your own gear. Most of the 62-100 range pays for itself this way.

Questions people actually ask

Where do I learn Midnight Enchanting?
Dolothos in Silvermoon City. The supply vendor Lyna stands next to him and sells the Refulgent Copper Rods and Enchanting Vellum the route needs, so you can buy everything vendor-side in one stop.
How much does 1-100 cost?
Through 62 the route needs roughly 412 Eversinging Dust, 27 Radiant Shard and 6 Mote of Light, and disenchanting the thirty levelling rods gives about 75 of the dust back. Past 62 there is no single answer: the cost depends on which recipes you own and what motes sell for on your realm.
Why does the order of the crafts matter?
Every recipe gives one Midnight Enchanting Knowledge point the first time you craft it. Knowledge is weekly-capped from every other source, so a first craft made while the recipe still gives skill is free Knowledge, and the same craft made at 100 is a Knowledge point you paid skill-range for.
Which specialisation should I pick at 25?
None yet. Three trees are open by 60 and the fourth at 75, so a choice made at 25 is a choice made with a quarter of the information. Keep levelling and spend the points once you can see all of them.
What do I craft for the last ten points?
A weapon enchant. Rings stop giving skill at 80 and chest enchants at 85, and helm and shoulder enchants stop at 90. Enchant Weapon - Worldsoul Aegis is on the trainer at skill 55 and stays orange to 100, so it is the one route to the cap that does not depend on a drop or the Auction House.
Does Enchanting need a gathering profession?
No. Disenchanting is its own supply line, which is why it pairs with anything. Taking Herbalism, Mining or Skinning alongside it is a way to make gold rather than a requirement, and Tailoring works for the same reason Enchanting does.

What we could not confirm

  • Skill points per craft, and the level each recipe stops being orange at, are the community guide's figures. Blizzard does not publish skill-up tables, so these cannot be verified anywhere except in the profession window.

  • Yellow recipes are the reason the 55-62 step needs more than nine crafts. How many more is variance, not a number: budget extra dust rather than trusting the count.

  • The 62-100 table lists what each recipe costs and where it comes from, not which one is cheapest. That depends on your realm's mote prices, and it moves week to week.
