Your key has a floor. Nobody told you.
Time every dungeon in the season pool at a given level and your keystone can never fall below it again. Fail a timer at +14 with a floor of +12 and you drop to 13, then 12, and stop. Without the floor you keep sliding, and a bad night costs you a week of climbing back.
This has been in the game since January 2025. There are 19 rungs, +12 through +30. Players argue about it on Blizzard's own forums every month, and a player in their first season has no way to discover it.
Read this before you trust the rest
The achievement names and the 12-to-30 range below were read off a page and are solid. The description of how the mechanic behaves was not found in any Blizzard post. It is reconstructed from many independent player accounts on Blizzard's forums spanning March 2025 to August 2026.
That is strong corroboration and it is still not first-party, so every claim carries a tag saying which it is. Two things below are marked unconfirmed outright, because guessing at them would send you to time eight dungeons on a false premise.
This site previously carried one sentence about this system citing a source that does not mention it. That was found while writing this page and is fixed here.

How it works
- What is a Resilient Keystone?practice. Convention among strong players. Widely followed, but it is not a rule and it can be wrong.
A floor under your keystone. Once you hold it at a level, a key that depletes cannot drop below that level. Without it, every failed timer costs you a level and you climb back from there.

- How do you earn it?practice. Convention among strong players. Widely followed, but it is not a rule and it can be wrong.
Time every dungeon in the season's pool at the level in question. Season 2 runs eight dungeons, so a Resilient Keystone 12 means all eight timed at +12 or above.
Blizzard forum topic 2319182, 2026-06-22: "Players who have earned the Resilient Keystone achievement at X level have already demonstrated mastery of the current M+ season rotation by timing every dungeon at the designated level." Player-authored, corroborated across several threads.
- How high does it go?verified. Transcribed from a primary source: a Blizzard post, patch note, or the game itself.
Nineteen rungs, +12 through +30. It is a ladder, not a single unlock: clear the pool at 13 and the floor moves to 13, and so on. Season 1 had the identical range.
Wowhead achievement listing (https://www.wowhead.com/achievements/name:resilient), retrieved 2026-09-06. All 19 Season 2 entries present, named "Midnight Season 2: Resilient Keystone 12" through "... 30".
- Does it carry to my alts?unconfirmed. We could not confirm this. It is shown so you know the gap exists, not as a recommendation.
Apparently not. Players have repeatedly asked for it to be account-wide, which is only a request worth making if it is per character.
Inferred from Blizzard forum topic 2084667, 2025-03-29: "if i reach a resilient keystone level on my main, it should apply to all of my alts as well." That is a request, not a statement of the rule, so treat this as likely rather than settled.
- Does it protect the whole group or just the key holder?unconfirmed. We could not confirm this. It is shown so you know the gap exists, not as a recommendation.
The key holder, on the available evidence. That means bringing your own key to a group carries a different risk than running someone else's.
Inferred from the existence of Blizzard forum topic 2329457, 2026-07-23, titled "Resilient Keystones Should Be Group-Wide, Not Keyholder-Wide". The title implies the current behaviour; no first-party confirmation was found.
The ladder
verified. Transcribed from a primary source: a Blizzard post, patch note, or the game itself.Every rung is its own achievement, named "Midnight Season 2: Resilient Keystone 12" and upward. Clear the pool at a level and the floor moves to it.
19 rungs. Checked 2026-09-06. Season 1 carried the identical range, so this is the shape of the system rather than a Season 2 quirk.
What it changes about how you push
practice. Convention among strong players. Widely followed, but it is not a rule and it can be wrong. This is the part worth the read. The floor rewards breadth, and most people push height, which is why they lose ground every time a night goes badly.
- 01
Clear the pool before you climb
Timing all eight at +12 is worth more than timing three at +14. The eight give you a floor; the three give you rating you can lose next week. Breadth first, then height.
- 02
Treat each rung as a checkpoint
Once the floor is at 12, a bad night costs you the run and not the week. Push to 13 across the pool, and the floor follows you. This is why strong players sweep the pool at each level rather than spiking one dungeon.
- 03
Know which key is yours
On the evidence the floor protects the key holder. If that is right, running your own key on a shaky night is the safer choice, and it is worth confirming for yourself before you rely on it.
Still open
No Blizzard post describing the mechanic was found. Everything except the achievement names and range is reconstructed from player accounts.
Whether the floor is per character or account-wide is not confirmed - only that players have asked for account-wide.
Whether it protects the group or only the key holder is not confirmed.
One 2026-08-16 forum account describes a key losing its resilient attribute and needing another dungeon completed to restore it. That edge case is not understood well enough to state here.
