Midnight Season 2 Mythic+ encounter guide

Sentinel of Winter

This fight is add control inside a storm: Shattering Frostspike reveals two Fractured Shivercores whose Winter's Shroud casts must be interrupted, and in Mythic+ each add death spawns a Rimeshatter soak plus a Snowdrift. Keys die when Frozen Tempest pushes players out of the eye because nobody staged a Snowdrift or a Rimeshatter soak was missed into the root.

The key group plan

Priorities before the pull

  • Interrupt every Winter's Shroud cast, rotating kicks between both Shivercores.
  • Kill the Shivercores one at a time and time the second death so its Snowdrift is fresh for Frozen Tempest.
  • Send one assigned soaker to every Rimeshatter shard while everyone else stays clear.

Kick list: Winter's Shroud

Ability reference

The casts that matter in keys

Frozen Tempest

The Sentinel manifests a massive storm that ticks Frost damage on every player each second and continuously pushes everyone away. Standing outside the eye of the storm adds heavy extra Frost damage on top.

Move into the eye immediately and stand inside a Snowdrift so the push cannot move you. Save a movement ability to get back in if you are shoved out.

Shattering Frostspike

Shattering Frostspike

The boss slams the ice at two targeted spots, dealing damage around each impact and revealing a Fractured Shivercore add at both locations.

Collapse the adds onto the boss for cleave, but stagger the kills so a fresh Snowdrift is available when Frozen Tempest starts.

Winter's Shroud

Winter's Shroud

KICK

Each Fractured Shivercore blankets the group in Frost damage and applies a stacking 10 percent increase to Frost damage taken for 20 seconds.

Treat this as the top kick priority of the entire dungeon. Rotate interrupts across both adds so no cast ever completes.

Rimeshatter

Rimeshatter

In Mythic+ a dying Shivercore releases ice shards that land 6 seconds later on a marked spot. If no player soaks the shard, Rime Detonation hits the entire group and roots everyone in place for 4 seconds.

Assign exactly one player with a defensive to stand in each shard marker. A missed soak that roots the group into Frozen Tempest is usually a wipe.

Glacial Torment

Glacial Torment

DISPEL: MAGIC

The Sentinel assaults a player with freezing temperatures, a heavy Frost damage over time effect that ticks every 2 seconds for 16 seconds.

Healers dispel it as a Magic effect on cooldown, prioritizing whoever has to move for a Rimeshatter soak or through squalls.

Raging Squall

Raging Squall

Tornadoes form on impact and wander the arena for 90 seconds, dealing very heavy Frost damage and knocking back anyone they clip.

Track squall paths before committing to a soak or interrupt position. A squall hit during Frozen Tempest can launch you out of the eye.

Role calls

What each role owns

Tanks

Hold the boss next to the active Shivercore for cleave, and park the boss on a Snowdrift so the storm cannot push you while you keep it faced away.

Healers

Dispel Glacial Torment aggressively and bank throughput cooldowns for Frozen Tempest, when the group is clumped in the eye and ticking.

DPS

Swap to Shivercores on spawn, pause damage if a kill would land without a Snowdrift plan, and honor your Rimeshatter soak assignment.

Everyone

Keep one eye on Raging Squall paths at all times, because a knockback at the wrong moment cancels a soak or throws you from the eye.

Tyrannical: The storm ticks and any Winter's Shroud stacks quickly become unhealable. Never let two Shroud casts complete back to back, and have every player commit a personal defensive to each Frozen Tempest.

Pull-time callouts

Say these before the pull

  • Snowdrifts slow you by 40 percent but make you immune to forced movement, so stand in one for the storm.
  • Rimeshatter shards land 6 seconds after the add dies, so call the soaker by name.
  • A completed Winter's Shroud stacks 10 percent extra Frost damage taken for 20 seconds.
  • Being outside the eye during Frozen Tempest adds heavy extra damage every second.
