Midnight Season 2 Mythic+ encounter guide

Zul'jan

Zul'jan is pure soak discipline: all four Ritual of the Fang beams must be intercepted or the boss gains stacking group-wide Fang Empowered pulses, and the Ritual Venom stacks soakers gain must be cleared on a Boneslicer line before their 50 second timer detonates. Keys die when a beam reaches the boss, or when a player forgets their venom timer and the stacked burst executes them.

The key group plan

Priorities before the pull

  • There is nothing to kick on this boss, so the whole fight is soak assignments: four players on the ritual beams, venom carriers rotating through the Boneslicer line.
  • Pre-assign beam positions before the pull so nobody double-soaks a beam while another beam reaches the boss.
  • Call venom timers out loud; a forgotten Ritual Venom at 50 seconds is a death, not a healing check.
Ability reference

The casts that matter in keys

Ritual of the Fang

Ritual of the Fang

Snake-head statues channel four ancient beams into Zul'jan for 8 seconds; every beam that connects grants Fang Empowered, a stacking pulse of Nature damage to the whole group, while an intercepted beam instead ticks on its soaker and applies Ritual Venom.

Pre-assign one player per beam, stand in your beam for the full channel, and have the healer run a cooldown while the soak damage ticks.

Ritual Venom

Ritual Venom

Beam soakers fill with dormant toxins for 50 seconds, and on Mythic+ the debuff stacks; when the timer expires the venom bursts, and a stacked carrier dies to it.

Clear your stacks well before expiry by standing in the next Boneslicer line; a single Boneslicer soak removes every stack you carry.

Bloodletting

Bloodletting

Zul'jan's Physical abilities make players hemorrhage, which removes Ritual Venom applications but leaves blood pools that tick Nature damage on anyone inside them.

Step out of the blood pool the moment your venom clears, and keep pools off the middle so later soak lines stay reachable.

Boneslicer

Boneslicer

Zul'jan hurls an axe in a line that deals armor-ignoring Physical damage plus a 7 second DoT to everyone it passes through.

Only players carrying Ritual Venom stand in the line to cleanse their stacks; everyone else stays clear so the healer is not covering pointless DoTs.

Axegrinder

Axegrinder

Spinning axes ricochet around the arena, dealing armor-ignoring Physical damage on contact that falls off as they lose speed.

Track the bounce paths and keep moving; a deliberate hit does clear Ritual Venom, but the Boneslicer line is the safer cleanse.

Chop Down

Chop Down

Zul'jan hacks his current target twice in quick succession for heavy Physical damage per strike.

Tanks press active mitigation before the first hit so both strikes land on a mitigated health bar.

Role calls

What each role owns

Tanks

Mitigate every Chop Down, and be ready to cover a beam if a group member is dead, because a free beam costs the group more than the extra tank damage does.

Healers

Commit a major cooldown to each Ritual of the Fang channel and spot-heal carriers the moment Bloodletting clears their stacks.

DPS

Soak your assigned beam for the full 8 seconds, then plan your route to the next Boneslicer before your venom timer runs down.

Everyone

Dodge the Axegrinder ricochets, stay out of Bloodletting blood pools, and never let a ritual beam touch the boss.

Tyrannical: A missed beam is close to unrecoverable because the Fang Empowered pulses tick for far more per stack, and stacked Ritual Venom expiries one-shot their carriers; lock beam assignments before the pull and cleanse on the first Boneslicer after every ritual.

Pull-time callouts

Say these before the pull

  • Soak all four beams, every ritual.
  • One Boneslicer soak clears all your venom stacks.
  • Blood pools persist, so keep the floor clean for later soaks.
  • Watch the axe ricochets after every Axegrinder.
