  • Requires fast, continuous inputs without Rage capping
  • Slayer cleave drops when Improved Whirlwind attacks expire
Character setup

Stat priority and consumables

Item level and effect strength still matter. Use this ordering to break close choices, then re-check it after major gear swaps.

  1. 1.Item Level / Strength
  2. 2.Mastery
  3. 3.Haste
  4. 4.Versatility
  5. 5.Critical Strike

Weapon damage and Strength make item level the first filter. At similar item levels, Mastery is the usual leading secondary because Enrage uptime is normally above 90%; Haste shortens the global cooldown and key rotational cooldowns, then Versatility and Critical Strike follow. Sim jewelry, trinkets, and weapons because the exact weights move with gear and hero tree.

Racials

Race choices that change a real decision

Throughput differences are small; utility can win the pull.
Goblinthroughput
Time is Money / Rocket Jump

One of the current Horde PvE leaders. Time is Money supplies passive Haste and Rocket Jump can recover melee uptime when Charge or Heroic Leap is unavailable.

Trollthroughput
Berserking

The other current Horde leader. Berserking is a controllable Haste cooldown that can be paired with Recklessness or an important Execute window.

Void Elfthroughput
Entropic Embrace / Spatial Rift

One of the current Alliance leaders. Entropic Embrace adds passive throughput and Spatial Rift gives planned movement without spending Charge.

Mechagnomethroughput
Combat Analysis

The other current Alliance leader. Combat Analysis rewards sustained uptime and Emergency Failsafe adds passive safety.

Dwarfutility
Stoneform

A strong progression alternative. Stoneform removes poison, disease, curse, magic, and bleed effects, which can be worth more than a fractional sim lead.

Orcpvp
Blood Fury / Hardiness

Blood Fury aligns cleanly with Recklessness, while Hardiness makes Orc especially attractive in stun-heavy PvP.

Consumables

Opener and priority

Use these as decision priorities, not a rigid cast sequence. Re-evaluate whenever targets, resources, procs, or mechanics change.

Core principles

  • Stay in melee and keep the global cooldown rolling. Fury's real output comes from high action count, Rage generation, and Rampage-driven Enrage uptime rather than waiting for a perfect isolated button.
  • Use Rampage before Rage caps and whenever Enrage needs to be restored. During stable Enrage, follow the hero-tree priority instead of spending Rampage blindly ahead of a higher-value cooldown global.
  • Use Slayer for compact Execute and Bladestorm pressure. Use Mountain Thane when sustained Thunder Clap and Thunder Blast damage fits the target pattern better.
  • For cleave, preserve priority-target damage: establish Improved Whirlwind as Slayer or use Thunder Clap as Mountain Thane, then continue the normal priority into the enemy that must die first.
SlayerDefault raid profile with Sudden Death, Reap the Storm, Bladestorm, and Improved Whirlwind for cleave.

Single-target priority

  1. 1.Recklessness + Avatar - use together unless a short encounter-specific hold gains a decisive target window without losing a cast
  2. 2.Odyn's Fury - on cooldown inside Enrage; the four-piece makes its return time dynamic
  3. 3.Rampage - when not Enraged or at 100 Rage
  4. 4.Bladestorm - on cooldown when the target will remain in range
  5. 5.Execute - in execute range or with Sudden Death
  6. 6.Rampage - as the normal Rage spender
  7. 7.Bloodbath - when available
  8. 8.Crushing Blow - when available
  9. 9.Bloodthirst - before lower-priority builders
  10. 10.Raging Blow - build Rage and avoid charge waste
  11. 11.Wrecking Throw - ranged filler when forced out of melee
  12. 12.Rend - refresh with fewer than five seconds remaining, or apply if absent and the target will live
  13. 13.Whirlwind - last-resort single-target filler

AoE priority

  1. 1.Whirlwind - establish Improved Whirlwind before the first cleaving rotational attack and refresh before its attacks run out
  2. 2.Recklessness + Avatar - into the durable portion of the pack
  3. 3.Odyn's Fury - inside Enrage while the pack is stacked
  4. 4.Rampage - when not Enraged, at the Rage cap, then as the normal spender
  5. 5.Bladestorm - while the full pack remains in range
  6. 6.Execute - use Sudden Death and execute opportunities on the priority target
  7. 7.Bloodbath - when available with cleave active
  8. 8.Crushing Blow - when available with cleave active
  9. 9.Bloodthirst - into the priority target
  10. 10.Raging Blow - build Rage with cleave active

Opener

  1. 1.Charge into melee.
  2. 2.Use Bloodthirst as the first rotational global.
  3. 3.Activate Recklessness and Avatar together.
  4. 4.Cast Odyn's Fury.
  5. 5.Spend Rampage, then use Bladestorm when selected and the target will remain in range.
Mountain ThaneSustained alternative built around Thunder Clap, Thunder Blast, Avatar, and Capacitance rather than Improved Whirlwind maintenance.

Single-target priority

  1. 1.Recklessness + Avatar - use together by default
  2. 2.Odyn's Fury - inside Enrage; track its four-piece cooldown reduction
  3. 3.Rampage - when not Enraged or at 100 Rage
  4. 4.Bloodbath - when available
  5. 5.Thunder Blast - during Avatar before lower-priority globals
  6. 6.Execute - in execute range or with Sudden Death
  7. 7.Rampage - as the normal Rage spender
  8. 8.Thunder Blast - spend available uses outside Avatar
  9. 9.Crushing Blow - when available
  10. 10.Bloodthirst - before Raging Blow
  11. 11.Raging Blow - build Rage and avoid charge waste
  12. 12.Thunder Clap - when Thunder Blast is unavailable and it outranks ranged filler
  13. 13.Wrecking Throw - only when forced out of melee

AoE priority

  1. 1.Thunder Clap - open the pack and use it instead of Whirlwind for the Mountain Thane setup
  2. 2.Recklessness + Avatar - into the durable portion of the pull
  3. 3.Odyn's Fury - inside Enrage while targets are stacked
  4. 4.Rampage - when not Enraged, at the Rage cap, then as the normal spender
  5. 5.Bloodbath - when available
  6. 6.Thunder Blast - spend aggressively, especially during Avatar
  7. 7.Execute - on the priority target
  8. 8.Crushing Blow - when available
  9. 9.Bloodthirst - into the priority target
  10. 10.Raging Blow - build Rage between spenders
  11. 11.Thunder Clap - repeat when higher-priority actions are unavailable

Opener

  1. 1.Charge into melee.
  2. 2.Use Bloodthirst as the first rotational global.
  3. 3.Activate Recklessness and Avatar together.
  4. 4.Cast Odyn's Fury.
  5. 5.Spend Rampage, then prioritize Thunder Blast during Avatar.

Pre-combat checks

  • Apply Battle Shout and enter Berserker Stance.
  • Use Quel'dorei Medley or Silvermoon Parade, Flask of the Magisters, Thalassian Phoenix Oil on both weapons, and a Void-Touched Augment Rune for progression.
  • Verify the encounter talent import, four-piece tier, both weapon enchants, and the planned on-use trinket before the ready check.
  • Place Charge, Heroic Leap, Pummel, Defensive Stance, Spell Reflection, Enraged Regeneration, and Rallying Cry where they remain usable while strafing.

Major cooldowns

Recklessness and Avatar

  • Use them together by default. Current cooldown reduction brings the package back frequently, so an unnecessary hold can delete an entire use.
  • A short hold is correct when it reaches durable adds or an amplification window and the fight timer confirms the same number of total casts.

Odyn's Fury

  • Cast inside Enrage and while the intended targets are in range.
  • The four-piece makes Rampage reduce the cooldown by 2.5 seconds, so track the actual icon instead of planning around a fixed interval.

Bladestorm

  • Slayer only. Use on cooldown for single target and during the durable part of an AoE pull.
  • Do not begin it immediately before forced movement, an assigned interrupt, or a target immunity that removes most of the channel.

Defensive toolkit

  • Use Spell Reflection for reflectable magic, Defensive Stance before predictable lethal damage, and Enraged Regeneration when the damage pattern lets Bloodthirst contribute recovery.
  • Impending Victory is personal recovery. Rallying Cry is a group cooldown and should follow the raid or key assignment rather than personal panic.

Advanced tips

Improved Whirlwind discipline

  • Only Slayer uses the Whirlwind maintenance loop in these builds. Refresh before the final empowered attack is consumed, not after every Rampage or on a fixed timer.
  • Keep every cleaving attack aimed at the priority target. Improved Whirlwind is a delivery system for the single-target priority, not permission to target random enemies.

Enrage and Rage control

  • Rampage before Rage caps and whenever Enrage has fallen. During stable Enrage, preserve higher-priority Odyn's Fury, Bladestorm, Execute, Bloodbath, or Thunder Blast globals.
  • High Enrage uptime makes Mastery valuable, but uptime comes from correct Rampage cadence and melee contact, not from Critical Strike gearing.

Cooldown holds

  • Treat roughly 10 seconds as the normal upper bound for holding Recklessness and Avatar unless the encounter timeline proves a longer delay preserves the same number of uses.
  • In Mythic+, target lifetime decides the hold. Do not spend the full package into a dying pack when the next durable pull starts before the cooldowns would return.

Talents and hero trees

Use Slayer for the single-target profile below and Mountain Thane when cleave or adds make its toolkit more valuable.

Recommended starting profiles

Single-target: Slayer

Slayer is the default raid single-target and cleave profile, with Mountain Thane retained as an encounter-specific alternative.

  • Slayer hero tree
  • Stat priority: Item Level / Strength > Mastery
  • Interrupt: Pummel

Multi-target: Mountain Thane

Mountain Thane is the straightforward sustained Mythic+ profile; Slayer remains competitive when compact Bladestorm burst and priority damage fit the route.

  • Mountain Thane hero tree
  • Prioritize AoE and add-swap talents
  • Interrupt: Pummel

Survival and control

Utility, defensives, and movement

Your Warrior toolkit is part of the rotation whenever it prevents lost uptime, lethal damage, or an enemy cast.

Rallying Cry is a raid-saving group health cooldown; Spell Reflection bounces targeted casts.

Interrupt: Pummel - grab a focus-interrupt macro on the Fury macros page.

Execution

Interface and macros

Use interface changes only when they expose a decision sooner: resources, procs, defensives, dispels, interrupts, and encounter assignments.

Rage and Enrage - Put Rage and the remaining Enrage duration immediately below the character. Warn before 100 Rage and make an expired Enrage visually distinct so Rampage decisions do not depend on the default buff row.
Rampaging Berserker - Track Rampaging Berserker beside Rampage. The display should show whether the current Enrage window can be extended before another Rampage is needed.
Slayer package - When Slayer is selected, show Sudden Death, Reap the Storm, Bladestorm, and the next Execute opportunity in one cluster. Keep Execute procs visible even when the target is above normal execute range.
Mountain Thane package - When Mountain Thane is selected, replace the Slayer cluster with Thunder Blast charges or availability, Thunder Clap, Avatar, Storm Surge, and Capacitance information.
Improved Whirlwind stacks - For Slayer cleave and AoE, show the remaining Improved Whirlwind attacks near the rotational buttons. Refresh before the final empowered attack is consumed, not on an arbitrary timer.
Priority target and Rend - Show Rend on hostile nameplates and emphasize the priority target. Refresh Rend with fewer than five seconds remaining only when the target will live long enough for the bleed to pay back.
Cooldown row - Keep Recklessness, Avatar, Odyn's Fury, Bladestorm, and the combat potion on one timeline. The row should expose whether a delay will cost a use rather than merely showing that a button is available.
Mobility and survival - Keep Charge, Heroic Leap, Defensive Stance, Enraged Regeneration, Spell Reflection, Impending Victory, and Rallying Cry visible with cooldown text.
Enemy casts and stops - Use large nameplate cast bars with the assigned interrupt highlighted. Track Pummel, Storm Bolt, Shockwave, and Intimidating Shout as separate control tools; none belongs in the damage priority.

Cursor Heroic Leap

#showtooltip Heroic Leap
/cast [@cursor] Heroic Leap

Removes the placement click for fast uptime recovery. Keep a normal reticle version available when exact landing position matters more than speed.

Mouseover Execute

#showtooltip Execute
/cast [@mouseover,harm,nodead][] Execute

Takes a Sudden Death or execute-range cast on a low-health add without dropping the boss target.

Mouseover Bloodthirst

#showtooltip Bloodthirst
/cast [@mouseover,harm,nodead][] Bloodthirst

Lets Bloodthirst hit a nearby add or priority target without changing the current target; the empty condition falls back normally.

Mouseover Pummel

#showtooltip Pummel
/stopcasting
/cast [@mouseover,harm,nodead][] Pummel

Interrupts a hostile mouseover first and otherwise the current target. The stopcasting line matters only if another cast or channel is active.

Arena 1 Pummel

#showtooltip Pummel
/stopcasting
/cast [@arena1,harm,nodead] Pummel

Direct arena-frame interrupt without changing the kill target. Duplicate for arena2 and arena3.

Arena 1 Storm Bolt

#showtooltip Storm Bolt
/cast [@arena1,harm,nodead] Storm Bolt

Direct cross-control when Storm Bolt is selected. Duplicate for arena2 and arena3; never insert this utility stun into the damage opener.

Party 1 Intervene or Interpose

#showtooltip
/cast [known:Interpose,@party1,help,nodead] Interpose; [@party1,help,nodead] Intervene

Protects party1 without dropping the enemy target. Duplicate for party2 and keep the spell matching the selected class-tree node.

Berserker and Defensive Stance

#showtooltip
/cast [mod:alt] Defensive Stance; Berserker Stance

The base press returns to Berserker Stance; Alt enters Defensive Stance before predictable danger. This follows the site's Alt-modifier convention without consuming a second action-bar slot.

Execution review

What improves results

  • Keep four tier pieces for Rampage and Odyn's Fury damage plus the dynamic Odyn's Fury cooldown
  • Use a four-color Midnight gem spread to activate Powerful Eversong Diamond
  • Apply Acuity of the Ren'dorei to both weapons and Thalassian Phoenix Oil to both weapons before combat
  • Storm Bolt, Shockwave, and Intimidating Shout are control tools, never rotational filler

FAQ

7 quick answers

Which Fury hero tree should I start with?

Start with Slayer for raid single target and two-target cleave. Mountain Thane is the straightforward sustained Mythic+ alternative because Thunder Clap and Thunder Blast replace the Improved Whirlwind maintenance loop. Keep both imports and choose for the encounter rather than treating either tree as universal.

What is the Fury stat priority?

Item level and Strength first, then Mastery, Haste, Versatility, and Critical Strike as the general PvE order. Mastery scales damage while Enraged; Haste increases Rage flow and button cadence. Sim same-item-level weapons, trinkets, rings, and necks.

What do the Fury tier bonuses change?

The two-piece increases Rampage and Odyn's Fury damage by 10%. The four-piece gives another 10% to Odyn's Fury and makes Rampage reduce its cooldown by 2.5 seconds. Keep four pieces and track Odyn's Fury dynamically instead of assuming a fixed timer.

How does Fury set up AoE?

Slayer opens with Whirlwind and refreshes its Improved Whirlwind attacks before they run out, then follows the normal priority into the main target. Mountain Thane uses Thunder Clap and spends Thunder Blast, with Thunder Blast especially valuable during Avatar. Do not bind the two setup buttons as if they were the same spell.

Should Storm Bolt be in the Fury opener?

No. Storm Bolt is crowd control. Save it for an assigned stop, dangerous cast, or arena cross-control; the current opener is Charge, Bloodthirst, Recklessness with Avatar, Odyn's Fury, Rampage, then Bladestorm when selected.

Which race is best for Fury?

Goblin and Troll are the current Horde PvE leaders, while Void Elf and Mechagnome lead Alliance. The throughput gap is small enough that Rocket Jump, Spatial Rift, Stoneform, or Orc Hardiness can be the better real-fight choice.

Which Fury upgrades matter first?

Secure four-piece tier, then prioritize weapon damage and the best trinket pair. For raid, target Gaze of the Alnseer and Heart of Ancient Hunger; for dungeon access, Algeth'ar Puzzle Box and Vessel of Tortured Souls are the listed starting pair. Sim every trinket and weapon change.
