How Enhancement Shaman wins
Enhancement is a melee caster that stacks Maelstrom Weapon to empower Lightning Bolt, Tempest, and Primordial Storm, weaves Stormstrike and Lava Lash, and bursts under Doom Winds and Ascendance.
- Role
- Melee DPS
- Stat lead
- Item Level / Agility then Mastery
- Single target
- Stormbringer
- Cleave / AoE
- Totemic
Strong when
- Strong burst and cleave
- Good mobility
- Utility (Bloodlust, totems) and off-healing
Plan around
- Maelstrom Weapon juggling
- Complex priority
- Target-swap ramp
Stat priority and consumables
Item level and effect strength still matter. Use this ordering to break close choices, then re-check it after major gear swaps.
- 1.Item Level / Agility
- 2.Mastery
- 3.Haste
- 4.Critical Strike
- 5.Versatility
Agility > Mastery >= Haste > Crit >= Versatility. Mastery improves Fire, Frost, and Nature class damage and Stormsurge interaction; validate close items with your current build.

Opener and priority
Use these as decision priorities, not a rigid cast sequence. Re-evaluate whenever targets, resources, procs, or mechanics change.
Core principles
- Avoid Maelstrom waste: Maelstrom Weapon makes specific spells instant and is spent at 9 or more stacks - Lightning Bolt in single target, Chain Lightning in AoE.
- Keep strikes on cooldown: Totemic prioritizes Lava Lash while Stormbringer uses Stormstrike, with a filler priority of Crash Lightning, then Stormstrike or Lava Lash, then Voltaic Blaze.
- React to procs: both hero trees react to the Apex proc Storm Unleashed, plus their own procs - Hot Hand for Totemic, Tempest and Supercharge for Stormbringer.
- Current recommendations: Totemic for raid, Stormbringer or Totemic for Mythic+.
StormbringerHeavier Maelstrom Weapon cycling to fish for Tempest procs; its primary strike is Stormstrike and it defaults to Ascendance as its cooldown.
Single-target priority
- 1.Primordial Storm - with 10 Maelstrom Weapon stacks
- 2.Sundering
- 3.Crash Lightning
- 4.Ascendance
- 5.Windstrike - during Ascendance - every GCD unless Storm Unleashed procs
- 6.Stormstrike - during Doom Winds
- 7.Tempest or Lightning Bolt - with 10 Maelstrom Weapon stacks - spend on Tempest as a priority whenever it triggers
- 8.Stormstrike
- 9.Lava Lash
- 10.Voltaic Blaze
- 11.Lightning Bolt - with 5 or more Maelstrom Weapon stacks
AoE priority
- 1.Primordial Storm - with 10 Maelstrom Weapon stacks
- 2.Sundering
- 3.Crash Lightning
- 4.Ascendance
- 5.Windstrike - during Ascendance
- 6.Stormstrike - during Doom Winds
- 7.Tempest - whenever available with 10 Maelstrom Weapon stacks
- 8.Chain Lightning - with 9 or more Maelstrom Weapon stacks - with Tempest procs, try to pool to 10
- 9.Stormstrike - as a priority to trigger Ride the Lightning
- 10.Lava Lash - filler to generate Maelstrom Weapon
- 11.Voltaic Blaze - filler to generate Maelstrom Weapon
- 12.Chain Lightning - with 5 or more Maelstrom Weapon stacks
Opener
- 1.Cast Voltaic Blaze on the way into melee.
- 2.Cast Sundering as soon as you enter melee range to trigger Surging Elements.
- 3.Cast Crash Lightning.
- 4.Cast Lava Lash to apply Lashing Flames.
- 5.Cast Ascendance - in AoE, cast Ascendance immediately after Sundering, then Crash Lightning.
- 6.Cast Windstrike every GCD.
- 7.Cast Primordial Storm with 10 Maelstrom Weapon before it expires, then continue with the normal ability priority.
TotemicCasts Surging Totem every minute, overlaps it with Doom Winds, and rides Hot Hand windows of Lava Lash extended by Totemic Momentum.
Single-target priority
- 1.Voltaic Blaze - if Flame Shock is not active
- 2.Surging Totem
- 3.Lava Lash - with Hot Hand or Whirling Fire active
- 4.Sundering
- 5.Doom Winds - off the GCD
- 6.Crash Lightning
- 7.Primordial Storm - with 10 Maelstrom Weapon stacks - ideally during Doom Winds
- 8.Stormstrike - during Doom Winds
- 9.Lightning Bolt - with 10 Maelstrom Weapon stacks
- 10.Lava Lash
- 11.Stormstrike
- 12.Voltaic Blaze
- 13.Lightning Bolt - with 5 or more Maelstrom Weapon stacks
AoE priority
- 1.Voltaic Blaze - if Flame Shock is not currently active
- 2.Surging Totem
- 3.Sundering
- 4.Lava Lash - with Hot Hand or Whirling Fire active
- 5.Doom Winds - off the GCD
- 6.Primordial Storm - with 10 Maelstrom Weapon stacks
- 7.Crash Lightning
- 8.Stormstrike - during Doom Winds
- 9.Chain Lightning - with 10 Maelstrom Weapon stacks
- 10.Voltaic Blaze
- 11.Lava Lash
- 12.Stormstrike
- 13.Chain Lightning - with 5 or more Maelstrom Weapon stacks
Opener
- 1.Cast Voltaic Blaze on the way into melee - Totemic always opens with it to apply Flame Shock for Ashen Catalyst.
- 2.Drop Surging Totem as soon as you arrive in melee.
- 3.Cast Sundering.
- 4.Cast Lava Lash to trigger Hot Hand.
- 5.Cast Doom Winds and immediately Primordial Storm.
- 6.Cast Lava Lash, then Crash Lightning, then continue with the normal ability priority.
- 7.In AoE: after Surging Totem and Sundering, cast Doom Winds and immediately Crash Lightning, then Lava Lash to trigger Hot Hand, Primordial Storm with 10 Maelstrom Weapon, Stormstrike, and Lava Lash.
Pre-combat checks
- Apply weapon imbues: Lightning Shield applies them with Instinctive Imbuements, and applies Earth Shield as well with Elemental Orbit.
- Cast Skyfury to buff your party with Mastery and extra weapon strikes.
- Never use weapon oils or a whetstone - they overwrite your weapon imbues.
- Carry a Healthstone and a Silvermoon Health Potion.
Major cooldowns
Doom Winds
- A 1-minute cooldown, 8 seconds baseline (10 with Thorim's Invocation), off the global cooldown. It doubles your Windfury Weapon chance based on your character sheet and increases Windfury Weapon damage by 20%.
- Main-hand special attacks rise in value while it is active: Stormstrike/Windstrike, Crash Lightning, Sundering/Splitstream, and all 3 Primordial Storm strikes can each trigger Windfury.
- Crash Lightning's initial hit and every Sundering target count as main-hand strikes per target, granting truly uncapped AoE Windfury procs during the window.
- Always sync Primordial Storm with Doom Winds - it provides 3 individual AoE Windfury triggers.
- It also gains Static Accumulation (1-2 Maelstrom Weapon per second) and Thorim's Invocation effects while active, if taken.
- Totemic: it naturally lines up with Surging Totem - weave Lava Lash on cooldown with Hot Hand triggered from Whirling Fire, and cast activators in between with a Crash Lightning then Stormstrike priority for Elemental Tempo cooldown reduction.
Ascendance
- A capstone choice node with Deeply Rooted Elements that replaces Doom Winds if selected. It converts Stormstrike into Windstrike and auto-attacks into Windlash - 30-yard range, armor-ignoring special attacks, with Windstrike's cooldown reduced by 60% while active.
- Ascendance: 3-minute cooldown (2 with Thorim's Invocation), 15 seconds, and triggers Doom Winds for 10 seconds on activation; spending Maelstrom Weapon outside the form has a 0.5% chance per stack to trigger Doom Winds.
- Deeply Rooted Elements: 0.6% chance per Maelstrom Weapon spent to trigger 8 seconds of Ascendance plus 10 seconds of Doom Winds.
- The window is a race to cast Windstrike as much as possible. Stormbringer: cast Crash Lightning as a priority and Windstrike otherwise - Thorim's Invocation with Raging Maelstrom always spends up to 10 stacks, so just cast on cooldown.
Thorim's Invocation
- During Doom Winds, casting Stormstrike or Crash Lightning discharges a Maelstrom Weapon spender; during Ascendance, Windstrike or Crash Lightning does - consuming up to 5 stacks, or up to 10 with Raging Maelstrom.
- The discharged spell follows 'priming': Lightning Bolt or Chain Lightning casts prime themselves; Tempest primes dynamically by targets hit; Primordial Storm primes by targets hit by its strikes; Ride the Lightning procs never influence priming.
- As Stormbringer, an active Tempest is always consumed regardless of priming.
- Be in the correct primed state before the window starts - fixing it mid-window costs a valuable global.
Sundering
- Your mid-cooldown burst tool on a 30-second cooldown: heavy Flamestrike damage in a line, and its hits can trigger weapon imbues including Windfury Weapon.
- Aim to cast it on cooldown every 30 seconds. Totemic always takes it for Whirling Elements and must not drift it away from Surging Totem's 1-minute timer.
- Surging Elements makes each cast grant 15% Haste for 12 seconds and 5 Maelstrom Weapon instantly - an excellent setup tool to layer over cooldowns (it does not trigger from Splitstream).
- With Primordial Storm taken, casting Sundering opens a 15-second window replacing the keybind with a 4-step attack (Fire, Frost, Nature, then Lightning Bolt or Chain Lightning) that consumes and scales with all current Maelstrom Weapon stacks.
Surging Totem (Totemic)
- A 1-minute cooldown, 25-second burst window exclusive to Totemic. On cast you gain Whirling Earth (next Sundering +100% and a Searing Totem), Whirling Fire (next Lava Lash triggers Hot Hand), Whirling Air (spending Maelstrom Weapon triggers Totemic Rebound 3 times - consumed last with Doom Winds plus Crash Lightning), and Primal Catalyst (next Lava Lash repeats at 150%).
- Execute the mote sequence to set up a long Hot Hand through Totemic Momentum - played correctly the buff can last until your next Sundering.
- Keep Sundering in sync with these 1-minute timers so the extra Searing Totem covers your streak of Lava Lash casts.
Advanced tips
Stormbringer notes
- Cycle Maelstrom Weapon in combat to fish for Tempest procs, and press Crash Lightning as often as possible for Storm Unleashed.
- Spend on Tempest as a priority whenever it triggers, ideally at 10 stacks; otherwise Lightning Bolt at 10 stacks to trigger Lightning Strikes.
- Doom Winds is off the GCD - pair it with Stormstrike or Crash Lightning on the press, and fill every GCD of the proc with them to trigger Thorim's Invocation.
- During Ascendance, every GCD goes to Windstrike unless Storm Unleashed procs; this should keep resetting its cooldown through Elemental Tempo and Thorim's Invocation.
- In AoE, spend with Chain Lightning at 9 or more stacks and fall back on Stormstrike to trigger Ride the Lightning, with a Lava Lash then Voltaic Blaze filler priority.
Totemic notes
- Cast Surging Totem every minute, follow with Sundering, begin Hot Hand with Lava Lash, then Doom Winds (off GCD) plus Crash Lightning to consume Whirling Air.
- During the window, weave Lava Lash with Stormstrike or Crash Lightning - Elemental Tempo cooldown reduction supports a 1-2-1 sequence depending on Haste.
- Spend Maelstrom Weapon at 10 stacks on Lightning Bolt (Chain Lightning in AoE), unless Elemental Tempo would reset Lava Lash or extend Hot Hand past your next cast - then spend at 5 or more stacks.
- Cast Primordial Storm with 10 Maelstrom Weapon stacks, ideally during Doom Winds, and keep Sundering in sync with Surging Totem or you cannot consume Whirling Earth effectively.
- Outside these windows, use the rotational priority Crash Lightning, Voltaic Blaze, Lava Lash, then Stormstrike, reacting to Storm Unleashed procs.

#showtooltip Wind Shear
/cast [@focus,harm,nodead][] Wind ShearWhat improves results
- Do not cap Maelstrom Weapon - spend at 10 stacks, ideally on Tempest or Primordial Storm
- Keep Crash Lightning up in cleave
- Keep Flame Shock up
- Align Doom Winds with Primordial Storm
Common mistakes
- Overcapping Maelstrom Weapon
- Crash Lightning down during AoE
- Letting Flame Shock drop
- Stormstrike without Crash Lightning in cleave
