Strong when
- Excellent mobility and kiting
- Smooths physical burst through Stagger, Shuffle, Purifying Brew, and Celestial Brew
- Strong snap threat and damage through Keg Smash, Breath of Fire, Exploding Keg, and Shado-Pan Flurry Strikes
- Great dungeon utility: Ring of Peace, Leg Sweep, Paralysis, Detox, Tiger's Lust, and Provoke tricks
Plan around
- Punishing if you purify low Stagger or sit in Heavy Stagger without a plan
- Magic and non-staggered damage needs proactive Celestial Brew / Fortifying Brew timing
- Blackout Combo, brew charges, Energy, and defensive timing are easy to desync
Stat priority and consumables
Item level and effect strength still matter. Use this ordering to break close choices, then re-check it after major gear swaps.
- 1.Item Level
- 2.Agility
- 3.Critical Strike
- 4.Versatility
- 5.Mastery
- 6.Haste
Item level and Agility are king. At equal item level, Critical Strike and Versatility are the best general Brewmaster secondaries. Critical Strike improves damage and Celestial Fortune value; Versatility gives damage, healing, and flat damage reduction. Mastery adds dodge and attack power. Haste increases Energy regeneration and lowers Keg Smash, Rushing Jade Wind, and Purifying Brew cooldowns, but is usually the lowest general priority.
Flasks, food, potions, weapon oils, and runes for this build.
Opener and priority
Use these as decision priorities, not a rigid cast sequence. Re-evaluate whenever targets, resources, procs, or mechanics change.
Core principles
- Build and maintain Shuffle: it smooths how quickly you take damage. Casting Blackout Kick and Keg Smash on cooldown maintains it easily - Blackout Kick's cooldown never changes, so plan your ability usage around it.
- Spend Energy appropriately: only some abilities cost Energy (Keg Smash does, Breath of Fire does not). Keep enough Energy to cast Keg Smash on cooldown; Tiger Palm and Spinning Crane Kick dump the spare.
- Remember your Brews: Purifying Brew reduces your Stagger damage, and everything with 'Brew' or 'Infusion' in the name gains cooldown reduction from some of your spells.
- Hit those cooldowns: Invoke Niuzao and Exploding Keg are used on cooldown, with Celestial Infusion and Fortifying Brew for defense - both count as Brews.
Master of HarmonyThe Standard Raiding Build default. These are mid-combat priorities - see the opener for how to enter a pull.
Single-target priority
- 1.Touch of Death - execute an enemy when allowed
- 2.Blackout Kick - to trigger Blackout Combo
- 3.Chi Burst
- 4.Celestial Brew / Celestial Infusion - only to deal additional damage - consume one charge if at two
- 5.Invoke Niuzao, the Black Ox
- 6.Tiger Palm - to consume your Blackout Combo buff
- 7.Empty Barrel - consume an active one from Bring Me Another
- 8.Breath of Fire
- 9.Exploding Keg
- 10.Keg Smash - use a charge
- 11.Purifying Brew - an extra charge if taking minimal damage, to trigger Special Delivery or Bring Me Another Empty Barrels
- 12.Tiger Palm - when there is nothing else to press

Pre-combat checks
- Consumables check: flask (1 hour, 2 for Alchemists), food (1 hour, lost on death unless hearty), weapon enhancement (2 hours), augment rune (1 hour, lost on death).
- Gear repair: durability drops in combat and each death costs another 10%. Broken gear provides no stats.
- Talent check: should you have Detox or Pressure Points selected? Look again to be sure.
- Everything else - Shuffle, Mystic Touch - applies within your first ability or two.
Major cooldowns
Cooldown philosophy
- All four major cooldowns have both an offensive and defensive benefit. Use them largely on cooldown, briefly delaying for larger AoE bursts.
- Do not worry about activating several at once - the rotation has too many high-priority buttons to allow it anyway.
Exploding Keg
- Your shortest damage cooldown and largest single burst - excellent early in a big pull for threat, and it resets Keg Smash.
- The defensive perk (melee attacks deal 1 damage briefly) only affects auto attacks, and on-hit debuffs still apply - you are not necessarily safe.
- Do not chase the bonus Fire damage with Spinning Crane Kick spam; have Rushing Jade Wind up beforehand if talented and continue the normal priority. Shado-Pan should fit in a Keg Smash to trigger Flurry Strikes.
Purifying Brew
- Three rules: never let both charges sit off cooldown (wasted cooldown reduction), purify right after a big damage spike, and spend a charge when the second is about to come back.
- Keg Smash grants 3 seconds and Tiger Palm 1 second of Brew cooldown reduction per cast - effectively halving your Brews' cooldowns.
- Playing as if you have one charge available keeps a cushion for back-to-back hits; purifying at Moderate or even Light Stagger is acceptable to keep the cycle moving.
Celestial Brew vs Celestial Infusion
- Celestial Brew is a full absorb for up to 8 seconds - stronger against overwhelming spike damage, but prone to wasting your passive healing and creating spiky intake.
- Celestial Infusion absorbs only a portion of damage for up to 16 seconds - think 30% damage reduction to a cap - which smooths intake and makes you easier to heal.
- Most players should default to Celestial Infusion, especially with Niuzao's Resolve; switch to Celestial Brew for concentrated spike mechanics.
Advanced tips
Stagger: a primer
- Every hit splits into an instant portion and a Staggered portion dealt every 0.5 seconds over 10 seconds (15 with Bob and Weave). Physical Stagger scales mostly with Agility; only 58% of that value applies to magic, including most DoTs.
- Light Stagger is 1-29% of max health in the pool, Moderate 30-59%, Heavy 60%+. Exceeding 100% happens regularly in hard content and is survivable with steady healing.
- Purifying Brew (2 charges, 20-second recharge) instantly removes 50% of the current pool - purifying earlier after a hit prevents more total damage.
- Shuffle dramatically increases how much damage enters the pool: 5 seconds per Keg Smash, 3 per Blackout Kick, up to 4 per Spinning Crane Kick, capped at 15. Dropping it mid-fight is catastrophic.
Self-healing and Healing Spheres
- Gift of the Ox is fully predictable: one Healing Sphere per 100% of your max health taken as raw damage (after armor and cooldowns, before Stagger and absorbs).
- Spheres last 30 seconds with a cap of 5 - beyond that the oldest is auto-consumed. Spinning Crane Kick drags spheres toward you and can consume them accidentally.
- Expel Harm (15 Energy, 5-second cooldown) consumes all active spheres, gets buffed by Strength of Spirit, and deals 10% of the healing done as damage. Watch its counter to track your spheres.
Optimizing Blackout Combo
- Keep pressing Blackout Kick on cooldown to generate as many combo buffs as possible.
- Consume the buff almost exclusively with Tiger Palm - Counterstrike, Face Palm, and Master of Harmony's Meditative Focus make it far exceed normal damage. Comboing Keg Smash for cooldown reduction is rarely worth it.
- Use non-combo abilities - Breath of Fire, Spinning Crane Kick, Rushing Jade Wind, Chi Burst, cooldowns, and defensives - as gap fillers so the buff survives until Tiger Palm.
Choice-node nuance
- Rushing Jade Wind is AoE threat and a rotation gap filler, but its Haste-scaled duration is hard to maintain (especially in Bloodlust) and loses value while kiting. Special Delivery deals passive damage from your Brews with a 50% snare and usually edges it out for damage - but be careful, it can break crowd control.
- Charred Passions (with the always-recommended Sal'salabim's Strength) keeps Blackout Kick permanently buffed and wins small pulls; Dragonfire Brew breathes twice more and pulls ahead in large pulls with less pressure on perfect Blackout Kicks.
- If you talent Scalding Brew, you must take Charred Passions - its refreshes are the only way to maintain Breath of Fire's DoT.
Talents and hero trees
Use Shado-Pan for the single-target profile below and Shado-Pan when cleave or adds make its toolkit more valuable.
Recommended starting profiles
Single-target: Shado-Pan
Master of Harmony is the default for the Standard Raiding Build, asking you to cast Celestial Brew / Celestial Infusion frequently to empower your kit - it is especially strong into physical staggered damage.
- Shado-Pan hero tree
- Stat priority: Item Level > Agility
- Interrupt: Spear Hand Strike
Multi-target: Shado-Pan
Shado-Pan is the alternative, using Flurry Strikes and Niuzao windows for strong physical pressure and threat.
- Shado-Pan hero tree
- Prioritize AoE and add-swap talents
- Interrupt: Spear Hand Strike

/cast [@focus,harm,nodead][] Spear Hand StrikeWhat improves results
- Read your Stagger color. Light is safe, Moderate means plan, Heavy means purify or pair a defensive before the DoT wins.
- Shuffle is mandatory for real Stagger value, but your normal rotation maintains it through core buttons.
- Do not purify every time a charge appears. Purifying low Stagger wastes the charge and weakens your next Celestial Brew.
- Use Ring of Peace and Leg Sweep to reduce incoming damage, not only to fix emergencies.
- For Shado-Pan, try to fit as many Blackout Kick and Breath of Fire casts as possible during Niuzao to push Wisdom of the Wall / Flurry Strikes value.
- Secondary-stat enchants and gems can move with your current gear, dungeon route, raid boss, and whether you need damage, leech, or survival.
Common mistakes
- Purifying at Light Stagger and then having no charge after the tank hit
- Using Celestial Brew before building meaningful Purified Chi when the hit is predictable
- Ignoring Blackout Combo and randomly spending Tiger Palm / Breath of Fire
- Capping brew charges or Energy during low-pressure moments
- Forgetting that Touch of Death can also remove a large amount of Stagger when talented
