How Augmentation Evoker wins

Augmentation is WoW's support DPS spec. Your damage profile is a 30-second loop around Ebon Might, Prescience, empowered spells, and Eruption extensions, with Breath of Eons turning planned group burst into your biggest two-minute payoff.

Scalecommander
Patch 12.0.7Updated Jul 16, 2026

Strong when

  • Unique raid and Mythic+ damage amplification
  • Excellent in coordinated groups with planned burst windows
  • Scalecommander adds more direct personal damage and cleave than older Aug profiles
  • Strong utility through Rescue, Zephyr, Quell, Oppressing Roar, and Time Dilation

Plan around

  • Requires buff-target tracking and cooldown planning
  • Performance still depends on selecting the right allies for Prescience and Ebon Might value
  • Short 25-yard range punishes bad positioning
  • Weaker solo feel than pure DPS Evoker specs
Character setup

Stat priority and consumables

Item level and effect strength still matter. Use this ordering to break close choices, then re-check it after major gear swaps.

  1. 1.Intellect
  2. 2.Haste
  3. 3.Critical Strike
  4. 4.Mastery
  5. 5.Versatility

Intellect is always king. For Scalecommander, Haste and Critical Strike are the most reliable throughput stats: Haste smooths the 30-second Ebon Might cycle, and Critical Strike helps Eruption extend Ebon Might. Mastery and Versatility move with hero tree, group timing, and current gear, so re-sim after weapon, trinket, tier, or ring upgrades.

Opener and priority

Use these as decision priorities, not a rigid cast sequence. Re-evaluate whenever targets, resources, procs, or mechanics change.

Core principles

  • Keep your buffs up: everything centers on Ebon Might uptime. Sands of Time extends it through your damaging rotation - Upheaval and Fire Breath at the right ranks on cooldown, Eruption to spend resources, and Living Flame or Azure Strike to fill.
  • Always be casting: high uptime keeps your resource economy healthy. Use Hover to cast on the move and fill every gap with Living Flame or Azure Strike to generate Essence Burst.
  • Watch Essence Burst: it stacks to 2, so spend when capped - ideally before casting generators like Prescience and Living Flame - to avoid wasting resources.
  • Mind your cooldowns: sending them on cooldown is usually right, but look for chances to align Breath of Eons with allies' cooldowns and big damage moments.
ChronowardenThe core Ebon Might loop with Time Skip as an extra cooldown when talented. Avoid spending resources outside Ebon Might whenever possible.

Single-target priority

  1. 1.Prescience - maintain on allied DPS players
  2. 2.Ebon Might - if a few seconds or less remain on the active buff
  3. 3.Breath of Eons
  4. 4.Tip the Scales
  5. 5.Fire Breath - at max rank whenever possible
  6. 6.Upheaval - at Rank 1, unless you need the bigger radius to hit relevant targets
  7. 7.Time Skip - only if talented
  8. 8.Eruption
  9. 9.Living Flame - filler in nearly all situations
  10. 10.Azure Strike - backup filler while moving, or to slow enemies
  11. 11.Blistering Scales - maintain on a tank

AoE priority

  1. 1.Prescience - maintain on allied DPS players
  2. 2.Ebon Might - if a few seconds or less remain on the active buff
  3. 3.Breath of Eons
  4. 4.Tip the Scales
  5. 5.Fire Breath - at max rank whenever possible
  6. 6.Upheaval - uprank it so as many enemies as possible sit inside the area
  7. 7.Time Skip - only if talented
  8. 8.Eruption
  9. 9.Living Flame - filler
  10. 10.Azure Strike - moving filler / slow
  11. 11.Blistering Scales - maintain on a tank

Opener

  1. 1.Pre-cast Blistering Scales on a tank, then pre-cast Living Flame.
  2. 2.Cast Ebon Might immediately after combat starts to buff the raid as soon as possible.
  3. 3.Cast Prescience on buff targets 1 and 2 while positioning for Breath of Eons.
  4. 4.Cast Breath of Eons - aim for a short, safe flight path.
  5. 5.Use your trinket and combat potion.
  6. 6.Cast Tip the Scales (off-GCD), then Fire Breath at max rank from it.
  7. 7.Cast Upheaval at Rank 1 (uprank only for radius).
  8. 8.If talented: cast Time Skip, followed by Prescience, Fire Breath, Upheaval.
  9. 9.Cast Eruption until dry on Essence, filling with Living Flame, then proceed to the main rotation.
ScalecommanderSame core loop, but plays around Bombardments: each Empower spell turns your next Eruption into Mass Eruption.

  5. 5.Fire Breath - at max rank whenever possible
  6. 6.Upheaval - uprank for radius as needed
  7. 7.Eruption - play around Bombardments - spread Mass Eruption casts across two high-health targets
  8. 8.Living Flame - filler
  9. 9.Azure Strike - moving filler / slow
  10. 10.Blistering Scales - maintain on a tank

Opener

  1. 1.Pre-cast Blistering Scales on a tank, then pre-cast Living Flame.
  2. 2.Cast Ebon Might immediately after combat starts.
  3. 3.Cast Prescience on buff targets 1 and 2 while positioning for Breath of Eons.

  7. 7.Cast Upheaval at Rank 1 (uprank only for radius).
  8. 8.Cast Eruption until dry on Essence, filling with Living Flame, then proceed to the main rotation.

Pre-combat checks

  • Check consumables - food, flask, weapon oil, augment rune as needed.
  • Cast Blessing of the Bronze (hour-long raid buff with movement-cooldown reduction).
  • Cast Source of Magic on your chosen healer (lasts an hour).
  • Apply Blistering Scales - usually the tank in groups, yourself solo.
  • If talented: confirm your Draconic Attunements choice (Black Attunement is the default), apply Timelessness to a high-threat DPS, and cast Bestow Weyrnstone on your chosen partner.

Major cooldowns

Empower spells (Fire Breath and Upheaval)

  • Only cast them while Ebon Might is up so they extend the buff and direct Shifting Sands at nearby buffed allies.
  • Fire Breath at higher ranks trades DoT duration for upfront damage, and Leaping Flames adds Living Flame projectiles - each with its own Essence Burst chance - so max rank is the default whenever possible.
  • Do not uprank at the cost of buff uptime: if Ebon Might or Duplicate has less than 4-5 seconds remaining, cast Fire Breath at Rank 1 instead.
  • Upranking Upheaval only widens its area - Rank 1 is entirely sufficient in single target; uprank in AoE to cover as many enemies as possible.

Breath of Eons

  • Send it on cooldown by default, but look for alignments with allies' cooldowns and big damage windows.
  • Plan a short, safe flight path before you commit - position during your Prescience casts in the opener.

Advanced tips

Spreading Bombardments (Scalecommander)

  • Each Empower spell grants a stack (up to 2) making your next Eruption a Mass Eruption that applies Bombardments - cast both Empowers back-to-back to bank two.
  • With two or more high-health enemies, put the second Mass Eruption on a second priority target so Bombardments rolls on both - every Extended Battle proc then extends both, doubling its value and feeding Wingleader's Breath of Eons cooldown reduction.

Resource Pooling (Scalecommander in high keys)

  • When your Empowers are about to come off cooldown, delay Eruption and pool by casting Living Flame or Prescience until both Empowers are cast and you hold two Mass Eruption stacks - then spam Eruption while both Bombardments are rolling.
  • Never delay the Empower casts themselves while Ebon Might is active - pooling is strictly about holding Eruption.
  • If you reach 2 Essence Burst stacks while pooling, cast Eruption anyway rather than overcapping, and never let Ebon Might or Duplicate expire while sitting on resources.

Talents and hero trees

Use Scalecommander for the single-target profile below and Scalecommander when cleave or adds make its toolkit more valuable.

Recommended starting profiles

Single-target: Scalecommander

Scalecommander is the default raid recommendation because Bombardments and Mass Eruption add reliable direct value without giving up Augmentation's support core.

  • Scalecommander hero tree
  • Stat priority: Intellect > Haste
  • Interrupt: Quell

Multi-target: Scalecommander

Scalecommander is also the default Mythic+ recommendation; Chronowarden remains playable but is more sensitive to group timing and fight profile.

  • Scalecommander hero tree
  • Prioritize AoE and add-swap talents
  • Interrupt: Quell

Your Evoker toolkit is part of the rotation whenever it prevents lost uptime, lethal damage, or an enemy cast.

Dracthyr-only; most spells cap around 25 yards and empowered casts scale with hold time.

Execution

Interface and macros

Use interface changes only when they expose a decision sooner: resources, procs, defensives, dispels, interrupts, and encounter assignments.

Better Blizzplates - cleaner, threat-colored nameplates with cast bars and cooldown text - the nameplate upgrade nearly every top player runs.
OmniCD - party and enemy defensive/utility cooldown tracking - the biggest information edge the base UI still does not show.
Mythic Dungeon Tools - build and follow pull-by-pull Mythic+ routes.
Details! (optional) - deep damage/healing breakdowns and Warcraft Logs uploads beyond Midnight's built-in meter.

What improves results

  • Track ally cooldowns. Prescience is strongest on the players about to do damage, not just the highest overall name on the meter.
  • Plan Ebon Might in 30-second cycles. A small delay for the next group burst can beat pressing it into empty globals.
  • Use Breath of Eons on stacked enemies while your buffed allies are actively spending cooldowns.
  • Keep Blistering Scales on the tank or the melee who will gain the most from it before damage starts.
  • Pre-position aggressively. Augmentation loses huge value when the short range forces you to chase your own buff targets.
