Midnight Season 2 encounter guide

The Lost Explorers

Three Tortollans - Trader Gebbo, Scrollsage Iku, and First Mate Nama - fight under Mor'zahl's possession while his channel builds toward Final Ascension. The raid breaks crates to find Disgusting Fish and feeds one to a Tortollan to interrupt the channel, which empowers that Tortollan and changes the fight until the next feeding.

Before the pull

Set the encounter assignments before pull

  • Special notes: Nama's Mighty Thud cannot be immuned, Iku's Icebound Flames is both the dispel and the interrupt on this fight.
  • Plan the empowerment rotation before the pull: which Tortollan gets fed first and in what order, so the raid always knows whose empowered kit is live.
  • Assign crate runners - stepping on a crate applies a Splinter bleed, so healers cover them, and unstepped crates eventually explode.
  • Set the tank plan: rotate tanking two bosses stacked with the third away, and never let all three within 30 yards or United Defense reduces their damage taken by 99 percent.
  • Assign three soak groups for Nama's Mighty Thud and agree where the aftershock void zones get placed.
Fight flow

Resolve the encounter in this order

  1. 01

    Open crates, find fish

Run over crates around the room to reveal their contents while eating the Splinter bleed. When a Disgusting Fish appears, pick it up and carry it to the Tortollan the raid wants empowered - before Mor'zahl reaches 100 energy.

  2. 02

    Hold the tank geometry

Tank two bosses on each other with the third kept away so United Defense never activates. Trader Gebbo is untankable and wanders. Taunt-swap Iku and Nama at high Shredding Shards and Steady Strikes stacks.

  3. 03

    Baseline dodging

Dodge Nama's shell sprays aimed at melee, run Blink Nova away from the raid before it explodes, kick and dispel Icebound Flames, and keep damage even across all three bosses.

  4. 04

    Empowered Gebbo windows

Explosive Surprise now drops a giant fire puddle and a fire shockwave - run it out, then the raid jumps the wave by standing on a mushroom as it detonates.

  5. 05

    Empowered Iku windows

Frostfire debuffs send players out to drop fire or ice puddles on their assigned side; clear your debuff by stepping into a puddle of the opposite element, and stagger the resulting explosions.

  6. 06

    Empowered Nama windows

Three groups soak Nama's three leaps, placed where the aftershock void zones do not eat raid space.

  7. 07

    Finish evenly

DPS the bosses evenly to the end - when one dies the survivors escalate (Gebbo starts knocking players back, Iku pulses raid-wide damage, and Nama gains 100 percent damage every second), so the raid wants deaths as close together as possible.

Mechanics

What each mechanic asks of you

Mor'zahl's channel and the fish

Crate runners

Feed a Disgusting Fish to a Tortollan to interrupt Final Ascension. Each Tortollan can only be fed once, and feeding grants that Tortollan its empowered abilities.

Failure: At 100 energy Final Ascension pulses raid-wide damage with no counterplay left.

United Defense

Tanks

Keep at least one boss more than 30 yards from the other two.

Failure: All three stacked take 99 percent reduced damage and the pull dies to the enrage timeline.

Icebound Flames

Kickers and healers

Interrupt the cast; dispel the slowing DoT off anyone it lands on.

Failure: Uninterrupted Flames stack slows and damage the raid cannot afford during empowered windows.

Mighty Thud

Soak groups

Three marked players each take a group to split the leap, placed so the aftershock void zone lands out of the way.

Failure: An unsoaked Thud is a one-shot on the marked player and the void zones eat the arena.

Frostfire Volley and Elemental Explosion

Debuffed players

Drop your fire or ice puddle on the assigned side, then clear the debuff by touching the opposite element - deliberately and staggered, since clearing causes a raid-wide explosion.

Failure: Random puddle placement or simultaneous clears chain raid-wide explosions.

Escalation on death

DPS

Keep all three bosses even. When an ally dies, Gebbo gains Smashing Shovel, Iku gains Cataclysmic Invocation, and Nama gains Relentless Escalation - 100 percent increased damage every second.

Failure: A staggered kill order leaves an escalating boss alive long enough to end the raid.

Final AscensionMor'zahl channel

If Mor'zahl channels to 100 energy, he begins pulsing raid-wide damage.

Raid response: Feed a fish in time, every time. The feeding schedule is the fight's clock.

Mor'zahl's Command

On feeding

A fed Tortollan interrupts the channel, is repossessed, and gains additional empowered abilities.

Raid response: Feed in the planned order so the raid always knows which empowered kit comes next.

Throw JunkTrader Gebbo

Crates spawn around the room; stepping on one applies a Splinter bleed and may reveal a fish, and ignored crates explode.

Raid response: Open crates continuously with covered runners. On Mythic the bleed hits an area around the opener, so spread out and never double-open.

Mushroom Toss

Trader Gebbo

Mushrooms bounce players into the air when run over, then explode shortly after.

Raid response: Avoid them by default - and use one on purpose to jump Empowered Gebbo's fire wave.

Explosive SurpriseTrader Gebbo

A bomb debuff that drops a fire puddle and releases a fiery shockwave; empowered, the puddle is giant and the wave crosses the room.

Raid response: Run it out of the raid; when empowered, the whole raid bounces over the wave on a mushroom.

Frostfire VolleyScrollsage Iku

Players are debuffed fire or ice, explode, and drop a matching puddle plus receive the matching debuff.

Raid response: Run to your element's side, drop the puddle there, then clear by stepping into the opposite element - staggered.

Blink NovaScrollsage Iku

A debuffed player explodes shortly after, dealing raid-wide damage scaled by their distance.

Raid response: Sprint away from the raid immediately - your distance is the raid's mitigation.

Shredding ShardsScrollsage Iku

Channeled frost damage at the active tank that increases future shard damage taken by 50 percent for 1.3 minutes.

Raid response: Taunt-swap Iku on the debuff and burn the benched tank's shard amplification off before the next channel.

Mighty ThudFirst Mate Nama

Nama leaps onto three marked players, splitting damage among soakers and leaving an aftershock void zone behind.

Raid response: Three assigned groups soak, placed where the void zones cost nothing.

Shells spray in a cone that stuns melee, and each melee hit gives Nama 4 percent increased damage against the active tank.

Raid response: Melee sidestep the cone; tanks swap Nama before Steady Strikes compounds.

Role plan

Your job in the pull

Tanks

Never stack all three Tortollans - two together, one away. Taunt-swap Iku on Shredding Shards and Nama on Steady Strikes, and remember Gebbo cannot be tanked at all.

Healers

Cover the crate runners' Splinter bleeds, dispel Icebound Flames, and hold raid cooldowns for empowered windows and any post-death escalation.

DPS

Damage all three evenly - an early solo kill starts the escalation clock. Interrupt Icebound Flames on rotation and carry fish when assigned.

Everyone

Know which Tortollan is empowered right now and what that changes. The fish order is the strategy; freelance feeding breaks it.
