Nek'zali the Soulcoiler

Nek'zali is an add-control fight around a central Soul Well: waves of Restless Amani walk from the outer coffins toward the well, grant her 5 energy each time one arrives, and enrage her at 100. Even dead adds are not gone - corpses are resummoned during the next Ritual of Awakening unless the raid burns them with Slithering Flames first.

Before the pull

Set the encounter assignments before pull

  • Special notes: no immunities matter here, Essence Rend is the one dispel, and there are no interrupts outside Mythic (where the Drowned Echo's Soulcoiler's Curse must be kicked).
  • Mark a clump point away from the Soul Well where every add wave dies together, and assign CC, slows, and knocks to hold adds off the well.
  • Assign the dispel plan for Essence Rend: debuffed players run out toward the well side first, get dispelled away from the raid, and drop their void zone at the edge.
  • Plan Hungering Pyre soak groups for the intermission with enough players to split it safely, and name who lights leftover corpses if a Pyre is missed.
  • Use Bloodlust or Heroism on the pull - the final phase adds Uncoiling pulse damage and erratic void puddles, so the fight only gets harder.
Fight flow

Resolve the encounter in this order

  1. 01

    Control the first add waves

Adds walk from the coffins toward the central well. CC and slow them, break their shields to stop the fixate, then group and kill them together in the clump spot away from the well.

  2. 02

    Run Essence Rend out

Debuffed players are sucked toward the well and knocked away. Move out with the debuff, get dispelled away from the raid, and leave the void zone somewhere nobody has to stand.

  3. 03

    Aim Possession Barrage away

The active tank runs out and aims the wave of spirits away from the raid - its raid-wide impact damage falls off with distance. The off tank watches Hollowing Strikes stacks for the swap.

  4. 04

    Intermission at 50 percent

Nek'zali retreats into the Ritual of Awakening and becomes immune behind two Echoes of Jawae. Group-soak each Hungering Pyre with enough players to split it, then kill the Echoes one at a time.

  5. 05

    Burn the corpses

Anyone who missed the Pyre soak carries Slithering Flames for 8 seconds - walk it over the Amani corpse piles so the explosion removes them. Corpses that are not cremated respawn as adds and must be CCed and killed again.

  6. 06

    Race the final phase

After both Echoes die, Uncoiling pulses raid-wide damage for the rest of the fight and Invoke triggers Soulcoil Rites while Essence Rend puddles spin erratically around the room. Keep handling Phase 1 mechanics and finish her before the raid is overwhelmed.

Mechanics

What each mechanic asks of you

Soulcoil Rite and the Soul Well

DPS and everyone

No add may reach the well: each arrival grants 5 energy, deals stacking raid damage for 24 seconds, and raises damage from future Rites by 15 percent for a minute. Standing in the well also deals damage.

Failure: Souls feeding the well push Nek'zali to 100 energy and Uncoiled Rage - a 500 percent damage enrage.

Restless Amani

DPS

Break each add's shield to stop its fixate, then CC, clump, and kill the wave together away from the well. Remember the corpses persist.

Failure: Unbroken shields walk straight into the well, and scattered corpses are impossible to cremate cleanly in the intermission.

Essence Rend

Debuffed players and healers

Run out while sucked toward the well, take the dispel away from the raid, and drop the void zone at the edge.

Failure: A dispel inside the raid drops the void zone in the middle of the add-control space.

Possession Barrage

Tanks

The targeted tank runs out and aims the spirit wave away; impact deals raid-wide damage reduced by distance.

Failure: A Barrage fired into the raid at close range is a raid-wide burst on top of Rite damage.

Hungering Pyre and Slithering Flames

Soak groups

Split each Pyre with a full group. Non-soakers gain Slithering Flames, an 8 second debuff that explodes on expiry and removes any corpses it touches - use it deliberately on corpse piles.

Failure: Missed soaks hand out uncontrolled Flames, and uncremated corpses return as a second add wave.

Ritual of Awakening

Everyone

Kill the two Echoes of Jawae one at a time while the boss is immune. On Mythic, also send a strike team down to the well to kill the Drowned Echo and kick its Soulcoiler's Curse.

Failure: On Mythic the raid takes pulsing damage and is sucked toward the well until the Drowned Echo dies - a missed Curse kick kills the strike team.

Nek'zali the Soulcoiler's actual abilities

The named boss spells, their individual sub-abilities, and the response for each. Ability names with known spell IDs open their own WoW-God spell pages.

An add reaching the well grants 5 energy and deals stacking raid damage for 24 seconds, plus 15 percent increased damage from future Rites for 1 minute.

Raid response: Treat every soul that arrives as a healing event and a step toward the enrage - the add plan exists to make this never cast.

Uncoiled Rage

At 100 energy

At full energy Nek'zali enrages and deals 500 percent increased damage.

Raid response: This is the wipe condition. Energy only comes from souls reaching the well, so add control is the entire fight.

Nek'zali invokes the Soulcoil Rite four times over a channel.

Raid response: Stabilize the raid and hold defensives for the repeated pulses.

Essence RendPhase 1 and final phase

Debuffed players are sucked toward the well, then knocked away; the dispel drops a void zone.

Raid response: Run out, get dispelled away from the raid, drop the zone at the edge. In the final phase the puddles move erratically - keep dodging.

Summoned adds fixate toward the well until their shield is broken; their corpses are resummoned during the next Ritual of Awakening unless burned first.

Raid response: Shield-break, CC, clump, kill, and plan the cremation.

A wave of spirits shot at the active tank that deals raid-wide damage on impact, reduced by distance.

Raid response: Tank runs out and aims it away from everyone.

Melee attacks apply a stacking healing absorb and reduction to the tank.

Raid response: Swap on stacks; healers burn the absorb off the benched tank before the next Barrage.

Hungering PyreIntermission

Fire damage split between the players who soak it; anyone who does not soak gains Slithering Flames.

Raid response: Assigned groups split each Pyre; deliberate non-soakers can carry Flames onto corpse piles.

Slithering Flames

Intermission

An 8 second debuff that explodes on expiry and removes any corpses it touches.

Raid response: Walk it to the Amani corpses so the intermission ends with nothing left to resummon.

The well overflows and pulses raid-wide damage for the rest of the fight; Invoke triggers Soulcoil Rites and sets the void puddles moving quickly and erratically.

Raid response: Healers ramp for the pulse, everyone keeps dodging, and the raid races the kill.

Role plan

Your job in the pull

Tanks

Run Possession Barrage out and aim it away from the raid, swap on Hollowing Strikes stacks, and help group adds together as they die - away from the well.

Healers

Be ready for burst healing whenever souls reach the well, dispel Essence Rend players only once they are away from the raid, and plan throughput for the permanent Uncoiling pulse in the final phase.

DPS

Break add shields to stop their fixate, CC and slow the waves, and kill everything together in a clump. Boss damage is what is left over after the well is safe.

Everyone

The Soul Well is the fight. Never drag mechanics across it, never stand in it, and treat every add that slips through as lost raid health and lost time.
