Midnight Season 1 encounter guide

Midnight Falls

Midnight Falls is the season's final burn check. Six Sunwell braziers hold back the dark; one dies at every Hour of Midnight, and Perpetual Midnight after the last toll is the wipe. Fight inside the light, feed Starless Void into ground already lost, kick every Hymn of Dusk, and hold enough damage to finish Umbral Ascension before the bells run out.

Before the pull

Set the encounter assignments before pull

  • Assign one caller to announce every Hour of Midnight and the remaining brazier count. Six tolls is the hard clock, and a completed Hymn of Dusk steals a toll early.
  • Set a dedicated interrupt rotation for Hymn of Dusk with a named backup. This kick is not optional at any point in the fight.
  • Split two Midnight Comet soak groups and agree that comets are only soaked on lit ground - an unsoaked comet burns a dark patch into the light you have left.
  • Hold Bloodlust or Heroism for Umbral Ascension at 25 percent - unless the fourth toll arrives first, in which case send it with every cooldown you have.
Fight flow

Resolve the encounter in this order

  1. 01

    Fight in the light

Hold the boss inside the largest lit arc. Standing in darkness stacks Enveloping Night, and stepping back into brazier light is the only thing that clears it - lit ground is the raid's health bar.

  2. 02

    Trade Nightfall Cleave

Aim the cleave out of the raid and into darkness where possible. Every Cleave applies Umbral Brand; swap after every single Cleave, because a Branded tank does not survive a second.

  3. 03

    Feed the Void the dark

Players marked with Starless Void walk their drop into ground that is already dark before it detonates. A void zone dropped in the light permanently shrinks the space you must finish the fight in.

  4. 04

    Split the Comets

The two soak groups take their Midnight Comets on lit ground and split the impact. Personals cover the hit; the backup fills for anyone carrying Starless Void.

  5. 05

    Kick the Hymn

Hymn of Dusk is fully interruptible. The rotation stops every cast without exception - a completed Hymn extinguishes a brazier ahead of schedule and hands the fight to the clock.

  6. 06

    Answer the Toll

Each Hour of Midnight bursts the raid, kills one brazier, and sends a Gloom Tide sweeping out of the newly dark arc. Move through the tide's gap into the remaining light, re-anchor the boss, and keep counting.

Mechanics

What each mechanic asks of you

Enveloping Night

Everyone

Treat darkness as damage, not terrain. Any job that takes you into the dark - void drops, tide dodges - ends with an immediate return to light.

Failure: Stacks ramp quickly and silently; players who linger in the dark die to a Toll they would otherwise have healed through.

Nightfall Cleave and Umbral Brand

Tanks

Swap after every Cleave, no exceptions, and keep the cleave angle out of the raid. Position the boss at the light's edge so the cone exits into darkness.

Failure: A Branded tank taking a second Cleave dies outright, and a lazy angle carves the melee out of the lit arc.

Starless Void

Marked players

Walk your drop into existing darkness, take the hit, and come straight back to the light before Enveloping Night ramps.

Failure: A void zone in the light is a permanent loss the raid pays for every remaining minute of the fight.

Midnight Comet

Soak groups

Group soak on lit ground with personals rolling. Call the backup early if a soaker is marked or dark-stacked.

Failure: An unsoaked comet blasts the raid and scorches a dark patch into your remaining light.

Hymn of Dusk

Interrupters

The rotation kicks every cast, and the backup watches every kick. Announce rotation position after each Hymn.

Failure: One completed Hymn removes a brazier - a full toll of your enrage timer - in a single cast.

Hour of Midnight and Gloom Tide

Everyone

Stack for the covered burst at each toll, then immediately read the tide from the dead arc and move through its gap into the remaining light.

Failure: Players caught flat by the tide are thrown into darkness with a full stack of Toll damage already ticking.

Stacking Shadow damage applied to any player standing in darkness; brazier light clears it.

Raid response: Do your jobs in the dark quickly and come home to the light. Never cast from darkness for convenience.

A massive shadow cleave on the active tank that applies Umbral Brand.

Raid response: Swap after every Cleave and angle the cone out of the raid, ideally into dark ground.

  • Umbral Brand: A lingering brand that makes the next Nightfall Cleave taken lethal.
Starless VoidMarked players

Marked players drop a permanent void zone where they stand after a short countdown.

Raid response: Walk it into ground the raid has already lost. Light spent on a void drop never comes back.

Midnight CometGroup soak

Comets fall on marked positions and split their damage among players inside the circle.

Raid response: Assigned groups soak on lit ground with personals. An empty circle darkens the light it lands on.

Hymn of DuskInterrupt

An interruptible chant that extinguishes a Sunwell Brazier early if it completes.

Raid response: Kick every cast via the assigned rotation. This interrupt is the raid's enrage timer.

On a fixed timer the bell tolls: heavy raid damage, one brazier dies, and the dark claims its arc.

Raid response: Stack for a rotated healing cooldown, then re-anchor in the remaining light. Count every toll out loud.

  • Sunwell Brazier: Six lit arcs of safety. Each toll permanently extinguishes one.
  • Gloom Tide: A wave of darkness that sweeps out of the newly extinguished arc after each toll.
Umbral AscensionBelow 25 percent

Midnight Falls accelerates: casts come faster and comets fall in pairs.

Raid response: This is the planned burn. Send Bloodlust or Heroism and every held cooldown, and hold positional discipline to the end.

Perpetual MidnightAfter the sixth toll

With the last brazier dead, darkness covers the arena and raid damage ramps until the wipe.

Raid response: This is the enrage. If you see it before 10 percent, immunities and personals buy seconds - the plan is to never see it.

Role plan

Your job in the pull

Tanks

The swap is after every single Cleave - build the rhythm in the first minute and never break it. Anchor the boss at the light's edge so the cleave exits dark and melee keeps a full lit arc behind them.

Healers

Rotate raid cooldowns one per Toll and keep one in reserve for Umbral Ascension. Triage Enveloping Night on returners from void drops, and treat a dark-standing caster as your loudest problem.

DPS

This is a patchwerk check inside a shrinking room: uptime wins it. Honor the kick rotation, soak your comet, and do not leak globals standing in darkness. Cooldowns bank for Ascension unless the caller sends them early.

Everyone

Lit ground is the raid's health bar and the toll count is its clock. Every void drop in the light and every missed kick shortens a fight that is already exactly long enough.
