Midnight Season 2

Midnight Herbalism leveling, 1 to 100

Level Midnight Herbalism by picking herbs, not crafting: the three skill brackets, zone order, infused herbs and Overload, profession equipment, and the Knowledge sources worth chasing.

The short answer

Pick everything to 30, chase variants to 60, then only Lush and Infused to 100.

Herbalism has no recipe route: skill comes from picking herbs. Tranquility Bloom goes grey at 30, the other base herbs at 60, and only Lush and Infused variants pay from 60 to 100.

Start in Eversong Woods, rotate through Zul'Aman, Harandar, and Voidstorm for first-gather Knowledge, and gather without dismounting - a Sky Golem or 40 points in Botany, or Travel Form if you are a druid.

Where to learn it

Who teaches it and where they stand.

  • Botanist Nathera

    Herbalism trainer

    Silvermoon City

Teaches Midnight Herbalism. There is nothing to buy for leveling - the route is the world.

The skill brackets

There is no recipe list for a gathering profession - skill comes from nodes, beasts, and plants in the world. What matters is knowing which ones still pay.

  • 1–30

    Pick whatever you see

Nearly every herb grants skill in this bracket. Tranquility Bloom stops giving skill at 30; everything else keeps going.

  • 30–60

Base herbs turn yellow, variants carry you

Sanguithorn, Azeroot, Argentleaf and Mana Lily turn yellow at 30 and grey at 60. Lush and Infused variants also grant skill here, so pick those when you see them.

  • 60–100

    Only Lush and Infused pay

All base herbs are grey. Only Lush and Infused variants give skill - yellow at 60, grey at 100. They spawn randomly in place of normal herbs, so keep running your normal routes and gather them when they appear.

Where to go

  • Eversong Woods first

Start here: the simplest terrain and the lowest mob density of the four zones. Lightfused herbs here drop Motes of Light.

  • Zul'Aman, then Harandar, then Voidstorm

Move through the zones for variety - rotating zones also triggers first-gather Knowledge bonuses for new herb types. Wild herbs in Zul'Aman drop Motes of Wild Magic, Primal herbs in Harandar drop Motes of Primal Energy, Voidbound herbs in Voidstorm drop Motes of Pure Void.

  • Double-gatherer routes

If you also have Mining, the source publishes combined herb-and-ore routes per zone so one circuit serves both professions.

The systems that matter

  • Infused herbs

Infused herbs have a glowing visual, drop extra motes of their zone's type, and apply a negative effect when picked. Gathering your first infused herb teaches Overload Infused Herb.

  • Overload Infused Herb

A 12-hour cooldown ability that shrinks by 30 minutes per herb gathered - about 24 herbs for a full reset. Use it on infused herbs for bonus materials and Knowledge.

  • Nocturnal Lotus

The Perception-linked bonus drop. Perception on your tools raises how often it shows up.

Profession equipment

  • Hat, Satchel, Sickle

Three slots: the hat is crafted by Tailoring, the satchel by Leatherworking, the sickle by Blacksmithing. An Epic tier exists, but Blue and Epic share the same primary skill - Epic only carries more secondary stats.

  • Missives and enchants

Tools accept missives and enchants for Deftness, Finesse, or Perception. Silverleaf Thread is the vendor reagent used in the crafted equipment.

Knowledge points, condensed

Specialization trees unlock at 25, 50, and 75. The week-one sources below are the ones worth chasing before they fall behind.

  • Specializations unlock at 25, 50, and 75

Gathering a herb type for the first time grants 1 Knowledge Point, so rotate zones early rather than farming one circuit.

  • Weekly sources

Weekly Knowledge drops come from gathering up to a cap tracked in the profession journal. Eight world treasures give up to 24 bonus Knowledge Points.

  • Track it with an addon

Myu's Knowledge Points Tracker, converted to a Midnight addon, tracks which sources you have claimed.

Things that change the bill

  • Gather without dismounting

observed. Read from live data at a stated time. It describes what players did, not what the game guarantees.

Use a Sky Golem or put 40 points into the Botany tree for mounted gathering - the time saved across hundreds of picks is the whole game.

  • Druids skip the Botany investment

practice. Convention among strong players. Widely followed, but it is not a rule and it can be wrong.

Travel Form covers mounted gathering, so druids keep those 40 Knowledge Points for something else.

  • Stack Deftness so mobs do not interrupt you

Azeroot Tea and Darkmoon Firewater smooth out gathering speed on top of the Deftness from your tools.

Questions people actually ask

Where do I learn Midnight Herbalism?
Botanist Nathera in Silvermoon City.
What gives skill at 60 to 100?
Only Lush and Infused herb variants. Base herbs are grey at 60, so run your normal zone routes and pick the glowing variants when they spawn in place of normal herbs.
Which zone should I farm in?
Start in Eversong Woods for the easy terrain, then rotate through Zul'Aman, Harandar, and Voidstorm. Rotating also triggers first-gather Knowledge bonuses for new herb types.
What do infused herbs do?
They glow, drop extra motes of their zone's type, and apply a negative effect when picked. Gathering your first one teaches Overload Infused Herb, a 12-hour cooldown that resets faster as you gather.
Is Epic equipment worth it?
For skill, no: Blue and Epic share the same primary skill, and Epic only adds secondary stats. Buy it for the stats, not the leveling.

What we could not confirm

  • Zone route maps are the source guide's recommendations; optimal circuits shift with node competition on your realm.

  • The ~24-herb Overload reset figure is the source's arithmetic (30 minutes off per herb on a 12-hour cooldown), not a tested measurement.

  • Skill brackets are the community guides' figures. Blizzard does not publish skill-up tables, so the exact grey/yellow cutoffs can only be confirmed in the profession window.
