Midnight Season 2

Midnight Alchemy leveling, 1 to 100

The cheapest route from 1 to 100 Midnight Alchemy: vendor potions to 20, cauldron unlocks and first crafts to 50, then three priced options to the cap. Full material list, trainer and cauldron locations, and what the Moxie unlocks cost.

The short answer

Unlock the cauldron recipes early, then craft in first-craft order.

Alchemy's middle is a shopping trip, not a recipe: at skill 20 spend Moxie at Camberon's Cauldron to unlock the Philosopher's Stone and the Lightfused Mana Potion, because the transmute first-craft needs the stone to exist first.

Every recipe gives one Midnight Alchemy Knowledge point the first time you craft it, and that is the only Knowledge source with no weekly cap. The run to 50 costs about 300 Tranquility Bloom and 260 vendor vials - the blooms are the only real money.

Where to learn it

Everything the route needs, and who sells what the trainer does not.

  • Camberon

    Alchemy trainer

    Silvermoon City

Teaches Midnight Alchemy. Everything in the 1-50 route below is learned here.

  • Melaris

    Alchemy supplies

Silvermoon City, right next to Camberon

Sunglass Vials, Oil of Heartwood, and other supplies. Do the vendor run before you start: 260 vials is not a mid-route errand.

  • Camberon's Cauldron

    Discovery object

Silvermoon City, right next to the trainer

Spend Artisan Alchemist's Moxie to unlock recipes you pick yourself - the Philosopher's Stone and Lightfused Mana Potion at 20, Light's Potential and the flasks later. It is not random.

Buy this once, for 1 to 50

Summed from the route below rather than quoted, so it cannot drift from the steps it is meant to pay for. The list stops at 50 because past that the cost depends on which recipes you own, and any single number would be invented.

Refreshing Serum appears in the list because the Philosopher's Stone consumes five of them - you craft those yourself in the 20-27 step, so buy nothing for that line. Oil of Heartwood is a floor, not a count: the source does not state the oil per Recycle Potions cast.

The route

1 to 50, in order

Rows marked First craft are in the route for the Knowledge point, so craft those before you repeat anything. Quantities are already multiplied out. 9 first crafts in total.

1 → 7

The potion you will spam twice

observed. Read from live data at a stated time. It describes what players did, not what the game guarantees.

Six Silvermoon Health Potions. The recipe is on the trainer, the Sunglass Vials are on Melaris right next to him, and you will come back to this same recipe at 32.

  • 6x

    Silvermoon Health Potion

    First craft
    • 36x Tranquility Bloom
    • 30x Sunglass Vial
7 → 20

Recycle what you just made

observed. Read from live data at a stated time. It describes what players did, not what the game guarantees.

Recycle Potions is cast on the health potions, not crafted from herbs. It is the only step in the route that consumes a finished product instead of a material.

  • 10x

    Recycle Potions

    First craft
    • 10x Oil of Heartwood

The source does not state the oil per cast, so this assumes one; buy a full stack from Melaris rather than exactly ten. Ten recycles against six potions is unexplained on the source - a potion may recycle more than once.

20 → 27

The cauldron, then seven first crafts

observed. Read from live data at a stated time. It describes what players did, not what the game guarantees.

Interact with Camberon's Cauldron next to the trainer and spend Moxie to unlock the Primal Philosopher's Stone and the Lightfused Mana Potion - you pick them, it is not random. Then learn the new trainer recipes and craft each once for the Knowledge.

  • 5x

    Refreshing Serum

    First craft
    • 40x Tranquility Bloom
    • 15x Sanguithorn
    • 25x Sunglass Vial

Craft five: the first gives the Knowledge point and all five are consumed by the Philosopher's Stone below.

  • 1x

    Lightfused Mana Potion

    First craft
    • 8x Tranquility Bloom
    • 3x Mana Lily
    • 5x Sunglass Vial

Cauldron unlock. Spend the Moxie before you start crafting this step.

  • 1x

    Primal Philosopher's Stone

    First craft
    • 2x Stabilized Derivate
    • 2x Mote of Light
    • 5x Refreshing Serum

Consumes the five serums above. Required for transmutes - make it before the transmute, not after. A Philosopher's Stone from a previous expansion also works. The source never says where Stabilized Derivate comes from; check Melaris first.

  • 1x

    Transmute: Mote of Wild Magic

    First craft
    • 10x Mote of Light
    • 1x Stabilized Derivate

Needs the Philosopher's Stone equipped. The transmute's mote yield is unstated on the source; Composite Flora below needs four.

  • 1x

    Composite Flora

    First craft
    • 4x Mote of Wild Magic
    • 4x Mote of Primal Energy
    • 6x Tranquility Bloom
    • 4x Argentleaf
  • 1x

    Enlightenment Tonic

    First craft
    • 3x Tranquility Bloom
    • 5x Sunglass Vial
  • 1x

    Entropic Extract

    First craft
    • 3x Tranquility Bloom
    • 5x Sunglass Vial
27 → 32

Spam the cheapest new recipe

observed. Read from live data at a stated time. It describes what players did, not what the game guarantees.

Entropic Extract is three blooms and five vials a craft. Eight of them carry the range the source marks as approximate - the number is an estimate, not a promise.

  • 8x

    Entropic Extract

    • 24x Tranquility Bloom
    • 40x Sunglass Vial
32 → 50

Back to the health potion

observed. Read from live data at a stated time. It describes what players did, not what the game guarantees.

Thirty more Silvermoon Health Potions. The recipe is yellow by now, so it may stall before 50 - the source says that does not matter unless a recipe or specialisation unlock needs exactly 50.

  • 30x

    Silvermoon Health Potion

    • 180x Tranquility Bloom
    • 150x Sunglass Vial

50 to 100: pick your price

Above 50 there is no single route, because the cost depends on your specialisation and your realm's prices. Potions give one point a craft and stay orange to 80; flasks give two a craft to 90 but need the flask specialisation and 50 Moxie per recipe; the material-returning recipes cost whatever the Auction House says today.

Potions

  • Light's Potential

Orange to 80Camberon's Cauldron: 50 Artisan Alchemist's Moxie

1x Mote of Light, 8x Tranquility Bloom, 3x Azeroot, 3x Argentleaf, 5x Sunglass Vial

Flasks

  • Flask of the Magisters

Orange to 90Cauldron: 50 Moxie, unlocked by crafting Sin'dorei flasks 10 times. Needs the flask specialisation.

1x Nocturnal Lotus, 2x Mote of Pure Void, 8x Sanguithorn, 6x Mana Lily

  • Flask of the Blood Knights

Orange to 90Cauldron: 50 Moxie, unlocked by drinking a Flask of Thalassian Resistance. Needs the flask specialisation.

1x Nocturnal Lotus, 2x Mote of Wild Magic, 6x Sanguithorn, 8x Argentleaf

  • Flask of the Shattered Sun

Orange to 90Cauldron: 50 Moxie, unlocked by crafting Sin'dorei flasks 10 times. Needs the flask specialisation.

1x Nocturnal Lotus, 2x Mote of Primal Energy, 8x Azeroot, 6x Argentleaf

  • School of Gems

    Orange to 100Alchemy recipes

Materials are returned on craft - price it on the Auction House

  • Bouquet of Herbs

    Orange to 100Alchemy recipes

Materials are returned on craft - price it on the Auction House

  • Box of Rocks

Things that change the bill

  • Buy the cheapest quality of everything

observed. Read from live data at a stated time. It describes what players did, not what the game guarantees.

Material quality does not matter for levelling. The cheapest listing of every herb and mote works exactly like the expensive one, so sort by price and stop reading there.

  • Goblins and Kul Tirans start ahead

observed. Read from live data at a stated time. It describes what players did, not what the game guarantees.

The Goblin racial is +5 Alchemy skill and the Kul Tiran racial is +2. Extra skill keeps recipes orange for longer, which means fewer crafts per point at the bottom of every range.

  • Unlock the cauldron recipes before you need them

practice. Convention among strong players. Widely followed, but it is not a rule and it can be wrong.

The Philosopher's Stone has to exist before the transmute first-craft, and the Light's Potential unlock costs 50 Moxie. Spend the Moxie at the cauldron at 20 instead of discovering the gap mid-route.

  • Decide on flasks before spending Moxie

practice. Convention among strong players. Widely followed, but it is not a rule and it can be wrong.

The flask route needs the flask specialisation, 50 Moxie per recipe, and unlock chores like drinking a Flask of Thalassian Resistance. If you are not going flasks, every Moxie goes to Light's Potential.

Questions people actually ask

Where do I learn Midnight Alchemy?
Camberon in Silvermoon City. The supply vendor Melaris stands next to him and sells the Sunglass Vials and Oil of Heartwood the route needs, and Camberon's Cauldron beside them unlocks the recipes the trainer does not teach.
How much does 1-50 cost?
About 300 Tranquility Bloom and 260 Sunglass Vials, plus 15 Sanguithorn, 12 Mote of Light, 3 Mana Lily, 4 Argentleaf, 4 Mote of Primal Energy, 3 Stabilized Derivate and a stack of Oil of Heartwood. The vials and oil are vendor items; the rest is herbs and motes off the Auction House.
What are Recycle Potions?
A cast you use on the Silvermoon Health Potions you just made, not a new craft. It needs Oil of Heartwood from Melaris - the source does not state the oil per cast, so buy a full stack rather than counting it out.
Do I need the Philosopher's Stone?
For transmutes, yes. Craft the Primal Philosopher's Stone at the cauldron around skill 20, before the Transmute: Mote of Wild Magic first-craft. A Philosopher's Stone from a previous expansion also works if you already own one.
Which 50-100 route is cheapest?
There is no single answer, which is why the guide gives three options. Light's Potential is the easiest - about 80 crafts of one potion after a 50-Moxie unlock. Flasks cost more in materials but produce flasks you can use or sell. School of Gems, Bouquet of Herbs and Box of Rocks return their materials, so their cost is whatever your Auction House says today.
What is Artisan Alchemist's Moxie?
The currency you spend at Camberon's Cauldron to unlock recipes: 50 for Light's Potential and 50 for each of the three flasks. The Philosopher's Stone and Lightfused Mana Potion unlocks at 20 also cost Moxie, though the source does not state how much.
When do I pick a specialisation?
The first one unlocks at 25. The flask route needs the flask specialisation, so decide before spending Moxie on flask recipes. The source points to its separate specialisation guide for builds and Knowledge spending.

What we could not confirm

  • Recycle Potions: the Oil of Heartwood per cast is unstated on the source, and ten recycles against six crafted potions is unexplained. The data assumes one oil per cast; treat the oil line as a floor, not a count.

  • Transmute: Mote of Wild Magic: the transmute's mote yield is unstated, and Composite Flora needs four motes. If one transmute yields fewer than four, budget extra Mote of Light.

  • Stabilized Derivate's source is unstated on the page. The supply vendor is the obvious first check, but that is inference, not verification.

  • Skill points per craft, and the level each recipe stops being orange at, are the community guide's figures. Blizzard does not publish skill-up tables, so these cannot be verified anywhere except in the profession window.

  • The 50-100 counts are the source's estimates, and the flask unlock chores add crafts the estimates do not count. Yellow and green crafts mean a few extra of everything is normal.
